Irish Versus Irish: Here’s the Top 15-11

July 15, 2010 by Matt Q. (DMQ)

Keith has posted the latest round of picks that our little cohort has made for the Top 25 Irish on the Roster. Go check it out and then come back here and tell me why I chose… poorly.

I haven’t checked a spreadsheet yet to confirm, but I’ll bet when all is said and done, the participants will find the lowest levels of agreement on this particular set of picks relative to the rest of the poll.

I like these picks. Motta is a bit of an unknown to me, but I know that both coaching staffs were/are high on him. Blanton I’m not sure what to make of. He made some great plays as freshman but I wonder if he is a little Shane Walton-esque–great ball skills and good in read and react zone type coverage, but maybe not great in man to man coverage. I could be way off base with him but I suppose time will tell.

    Here are my picks:
    11. Ragone
    12. Stewart
    13. G. Gray
    14. Walls
    15. Tausch

I almost had Tausch at the 15 spot, but then my “Nope. Kicker.” reflex kicked in.

        jerk. kickers are people too!

Biscuit will be happy to hear that. I was a little reluctant also, but given ND’s past kicking woes, I am probably more excited about the position than I would ordinarily be.

Yes, Biscuit responds. I was waiting for that. A little G Rated for Biscuit, but a response nonetheless. By the way, think about the void that would be created in ND lore without the likes of Harry O., John Carney, Reggie Ho, et. al.

yeah, and DMQ was my holder during my offseason practices in Loftus too. come to think of it, that’s probably why he hates kickers. that was probably boring as hell for him.

I should have tried out for longsnapper. That was the one FB skill I had aside from the uncanny ability to end up with the ball in an on-side kick.

Is Keith going to develop an aggregate rating for the top 25 players based on the opinions he’s getting? I’d be interested in seeing that, and just how much the gap is between Michael Floyd and whoever is #2

Pete, one of the participants, is keeping a spreadsheet, and we’re gonna have a bit of a stats breakdown of the overall results sometimes next week. I think the next 5 come out today, and then Monday or Tuesday, the top 5 will be released.

Actually, I don’t think Rudolph will be far behind.
