I randomly came across the Notable Alumni page on the ND.edu site the other day. Found it interesting, thought you might too. Did you know that the following folks are alums? And they’re notable? This isn’t an exhaustive list, clearly, but some interesting folks on here.
Christopher Allen, Class of ’88. COO of Napster. COO of the best illegal site that became the worst legal site. ever.
Ernesto Perez Balladares, Classes of ’67 and ’69. Former President of Panama. PANAMA! PANAMA-AH-OH-OH-AH-AH PANAMA!
Thomas Burish, ’72. Killer of Fun at Notre Dame.
DMQ, ’00. Nerd.
Phil Donahue, ’57. Yep, THAT Phil Donahue.
Joe Garagioloa, ’72. SVP of Operations, Major League Baseball.
David Goebel, ’72. President and CEO, Applebees. (RIBLET PLATTER!!!! Gotta love that placement in Friday Night Lights, eh?)
And man, class of ’72 was da bomb at ND.
Michael Good, ’84 and ’86. Astronaut. And therefore, by default, P.I.M.P.
Bill Hurd, .69. Jazz Saxophonist AND eye surgeon. Dude has range!
Rabbi Richard Libowitz, .70. Yep, you read that right. A Rabbi from ND. And people say we’re not diverse…
John McHale, ’71. EVP Operations, MLB. Guess who hired Joe G? Go ND Networking!
Jim Nelson, ’85. Editor-in-Chief, GQ. Someone with style actually came out of ND?
Don Ohlmeyer, ’66. ESPN Ombudsman. At least when you email to complain about Mark May there’s someone with an ND-lean on the other end.
Michael Pasquale, ’69. Former EVP and COO Hershey.
John Paxson, ’83. Da Bulls. GM.
Ted Phillips, ’79. Da Bears. Big Boss.
All your pro sports, we has them, Chicago.
Condoleeza Rice, ’75. Former Secretary of State. Really? She’s a stanford supporter and even recruits for them. I don’t find this to be worthy of a ‘notable’.
Nicholas Sparks, ’88. Sappy bazillionaire writer. Massive jealousy of his success? Yes.
Hannah Storm, ’83. ESPN Anchor. And Muse for us when we were at ND.
Still got it.
Mary Thompson, ’85. Resporter. Seriously, it says Resporter. Like, she makes things into sports, again. Resporter. Right? Or ND.EDU doesn’t proof-read. One of the two.
John Walker, ’78. Producer, Pixar. Incredibles = Incredible BANK.

If you mention Donahue you have to mention Regis.
Donahue was a hated figure on campus when I was there (82-86) because he apparently did a show about gays at ND. One or more of them was from Howard and because of that it was known as the gay dorm even though it was full of football players. Never saw the actual show but that was the scuttlebutt in the South Quad.
And if you mention Hannah (Storen) you have to mention Mike Golic.
The Biscuit
Kev, there are a ton of folks I didn’t put in there, mostly because I didn’t want to just tell people what they already knew. So I left off the folks that are pretty obvious (Golic, Regis, Father Jenkins, etc).
Mark G
Latest Notre Dame Magazine highlights 3 guys who graduated in class of ’90, all Navy ROTC, all of whom are now Commanders in the Navy, and each of whom now captians a nuclear sub. Freaking awesome.
TubaPete
Isn’t that Joe Garagiola, jr.? Or does his dad have a different first name? I remember senior speaking at a pep rally when I was there.
The Biscuit
Tuba, you’re right, i forgot the JR.
Mark, that is pretty impressive.
