…when an ND player smokes weed, the world is over.
When a (insert any other football school, but probably UF) player smokes weed, it’s called Tuesday. This is college football for ND fans and players.
Mike Ragone was busted while allegedly speeding on the Indiana tollway.
Personally, I think of ‘the weed’ as similar to alcohol. Other than probably hurting Ragone’s lungs and therefore his ability to handle the BK hurry up and run run run run system, and likely just making him want to munch fritos all night, I don’t really have an issue with it in the moral sense. To do so while in a car is pretty stupid. To do so while in a car that is speeding is legitimately stupid. If he was partaking and driving? Well then, now it’s serious.
Expect ND to come down with a very harsh sentence from ResLife. It will probably be significant – think full season suspsension if he wasn’t DUI, expulsion if he was.
I am glad we’ve had some success recruiting TE’s, which will help in the long run, but pending the results of the school inquiry/sentencing this could be a big loss. While having 2 solid TE’s isn’t really, really needed in BK’s offense, it would certainly help him do some stuff that you just can’t do without that 2nd option. Burger has switched to a FB-hybrid, so that leaves coming-off-injury Eifert as the backup.
Hoping he wasn’t driving is about the best that can happen.
Regardless, Ragone’s ND career isn’t looking promising.
Bummer.

The weed was found in the purse of the lady passenger. Ragone may or may not have been a participant. We’ll have to see how this plays out. D. Jones was also busted on the Toll Way and charges were later dropped (paper and some ash). If only weed puffers would get a clue about how strong, distinctive and long lasting the smell is after toking. The Trooper probably had the scent of cannabis before he even exited his cruiser.
How about a conducting a poll of past and present cannabis use by the staff of Res Life?

yeah, Ska, I’m hoping that the details come out and that he’s not implicated in any major way. driving someone that has weed in her purse (especially if you dont know it) isn’t a big deal. smoking then driving is. it could be anywhere in between the two extremes.

It sounds to me like there was likely some willing forfeiture of rights by Ragone and his passenger. The officer likely asked to perform a search, and Ragone and his passenger granted permission and complied. Though, if the whole car smelled like weed, they obviously were just asking for trouble.

I am not justifying Ragone’s situation at all, but In British Columbia we tend to be more laid back about this kind of thing. Not only is BC Bud one of the largest industries in the province (something like 10-12 billion a year), but if every cop stopped everyone in possession we would have no room in our prisons. Let the B.C. Jokes begin

according to ESPN.com Ragone told the officer the marijuana was his. What an idiot. Also, not to pick a fight, but the “moral” questions in this post would have been “this kid is a jackass, hahah what a loser” if it were some other school, correct?

I’m not an angel, but I’m not a ND football player either. Ragone obviously hasn’t listened to his coach and he is probably off the team. Kelly told these guys from day one that they need to pay attention to the small details. How they act, their attitude towards their team and even how they take care of their lockers. Ragone didn’t listen and now he will pay the price.
