Midway through the talk, Meyer was talking about the “nonsense” that came up again last week when a column by Paul Finebaum in the Mobile paper indicated (again) that Meyer is leaving Florida for Notre Dame after this season.
He turned to me and asked. “Is it OK to make this announcement here?”
I knew what he was going to say because he said something similar when the speculative story surfaced three weeks ago.
Meyer turned back to the golfers and said, “I’m not going to Notre Dame. Ever. I’m going to be the coach at Florida for a long time, as long as they want me.”
He turned back to me and told me to put that in the paper, then to three other writers playing in the tournament and told them to print it.
And frankly, we’re just hoping that, for once, just this once, we can take Meyer at his word, because we truly didn’t know what we’d do if Meyer had joined ND. It would have been an internal conflict the likes of which the world had never seen. Like the morning after a Hooters binge.

Dear LORD, I hope that, for once, Meyer isn’t lying. I couldn’t handle him coming to ND. But, given his track record, he’ll probably be calling Jenkins tomorrow.

In a word…Giggity!

Allow me to translate “Urban speak”. “I’ve signed an agreement in principle to coach ND starting Feb 1, 2010. This deal is contigent upon me completing this upcoming season without any of my players actually killing someone or being indicted under federal RICO statutes.”

DTK,
So you’re saying there’s about a 9% chance Meyer will coach ND?
The Biscuit
I also love how Meyer calls it ‘nonsense’ when he’s the one that went on public radio, while HC of Florida, and said he hoped/wished/prayed to have a chance to work his “dream job” at Notre Dame. This guy is SUCH a clown.
BJDomer
But how do we know he was telling the truth in that radio interview? This man is a walking paradox!

If I had a nickel for every time a coach left his job less than a year after the “Never Leaving Here” speech, I could buy ND season tickets for life.
brendan
I also hope he doesn’t end up at ND, but remember: “We’re recruiting Tebow to play linebacker.”

this is good news for the South Bend police.

This just in … Urban Meyer today also announced that (1) he will never, ever, take the job as the head coach of Real Madrid, (2) he has taken his name out of the running to become the new Car Czar, and (3) there is no truth the rumor that he will be playing one of the angels in a film remake of Charlie’s Angels.

Just another Urban legend.
