So This Is What The End Looks Like, Eh?

October 18, 2008 by domer.mq

Just a short while ago, Oregon State, the team that beat Southern Cal and yet had a record of 3-3 and no road wins, put a pretty good beating on Washington. At the end of the game, Ty Willingham looked like one of those kids you would see in school who was just trying to keep his head down so nobody would notice him and beat him up. Again.

I nearly felt sorry for him.

And so begins Washington Week. About 168 hours from now, I’ll either find myself sipping a little scotch, letting the hate melt away as a particularly painful chapter in the ND Football Program’s history is finally closed, or I’ll be guzzling scotch, trying to figure out how I’m ever going to sleep again.

Just remember, Tyrone Willingham’s never lost 7 games in a row during a single season.

Trends are meant to be broken. Ty will lose his 7th game in a row this year. Hopefully in another blowout.

Not many coaches have lost seven in a row. That is a superfluous stat. Hang in there Domer.mq. I think this one means more to the players than the coach believe it or not. This is the first – and possibly the only – time they can win one for Charlie. Don’t believe for a moment that they aren’t thinking about that. Charlie, on the other hand, probably doesn’t think of it as any more that a way to get to 5-2. His tendency appears to be toward long range thinking. They tend to think in broader contexts. I just don’t think it is any more than a W opportunity for him.

    Yo Jim – (above)

“Trends are meant to be broken.” As a survivor of a near-fatal car accident at ND in 1985 and now destined to be sentenced to an unfulfilling life due to resulting brain damage, I hope you are 1,000% right. (numbers are for the feint of heart)

    GO IRISH!

    First time for everything, domer.mq.

I, too, share in your concern that something horrible could happen, UW could earn its first victory of the season against us, and the sky would fall.

I hope we beat them by no less than three touchdowns.
