GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO IRISH!

EDIT: MQ-how incredibly right was I on the turnovers?
EDIT 2 (rest of the gameday thoughts):
ND-UM(sucks):
- Charlie Weis is tough as nails. To stay on the sideline through that injury showed guts. And what’s more impressive is that he shrugged off going to a hospital or doctor after the game. After all, he had recruits to attend to, players to celebrate with, and film to start watching.Â
- I don’t know if it was Lou, I don’t know if it was the ’88 NC team, I don’t know if it was just because it was Michigan, but this Irish squad came out fired up, pissed, and with emotion. It’s been a loooooong time since this team had fire and swagger, and it was great having it. If it was Lou, Charlie should hire him on as Assistant Coach of FiringTheSquadUp immediately. But my guess is that it was all of the above.  Very happy to see it no matter what – this team needs to keep playing with such passion.
- Our D did a good job today of being opportunistic. We disrupted the rhythm of the UM (sucks) offense just enough to cause a few turnovers.  I didn’t like some of the big plays, and the fact that we couldn’t tackle 125 pound backs for the life of us (McGuffie is legit, he is going to be really good in a year), so we need to work that out. But overall, a stout performance.Â
- Our offense isn’t a well-oiled machine yet, but they got the job done. We avoided the costly errors of last week for the most part, and put the ball in the end zone when we needed to. The running game looked good at times, and shaky at others. But against that UM (sucks!) defensive front, I was pretty impressed with zero sacks and some of the run blocking.  Jimmy is emerging into a leader, and only really made 2-3 bad decisions in the game. One was the pick, but that was also a situational call to go deep. I think Haywood gambled figuring that if it’s picked it’s pretty much like an okay punt, so they went for it. That was just as much on Mike, though Jimmy shouldn’t have thrown that ball (and Floyd should’ve interfered with the CB, but he’s a frosh so I give him a break there).
- We are still a very young team (3rd youngest out of all D-1 teams people!) but we’re improving week to week. I think it’s obvious that last week the team played down to the level of their opponent, and that Haywood and Brown/Tenuta held back a lot of plays for this week. Whether or not that was smart can be debated, but it’s obvious that was the case. The amount of contribution from the freshman class is staggering: Floyd and Rudolph starting. Ethan Johnson playing significant time as a DE. Trevor Robinson playing the entire second half.  This a YOUNG TEAM, and we will develop as the year progresses. Are we great? No. Are we decent? Yes. Can we be good/very good before the season ends? Yes. But it will take time as this team gels and works the kinks out. If the progress from Week 1 to Week 2 is any indicator, we will be a solid team come Bowl Season. We were outgained on offense, but special teams and defensive play gave us short fields to work with, and we protected and took care of the football. Not having big mistakes is just as important/more important than wracking up big yards, and I believe a more consistent offense will come in time.
- Net-net, I’m back to 7-5, but comfortable there rather than my more pessimistic 6-6 leaning last week.Â
- Rumors of UM (sucks!) assistant coaches getting into shouting matches with fans and ND staff just underscore a bit of the frustration and potential lack of class by the DickRod-led skunkbears. Butler throwing a punch was a bit of both. Assistant Coaches getting into verbal fights with fans? I’d say both, and it’s even worse. You’re a grown man buddy – act like it.
USC-OSU:
OSU needed to keep the early momentum and they couldn’t. They simply don’t have an offensive identity without Wells to draw the fire and open up the passing game. Pryor gave them a little spark, but they were simply out-matched. After Georgia’s almost-tie to South Carolina (that lost last week to a terrible squad – “SEC OVERRATED!”), it’s clear that USC is the easy #1 team in the country. At this point, I’m not sure who #2 is.
And, though I can’t find stats on it, I thought I heard Shareece Wright’s name called during the game. Did a dude that was JUST CHARGED WITH A FELONY SERIOUSLY PLAY for USC???? HOW is this okay? If anyone has any confirmation of whether or not he played (or even dressed!), please let me know. Pete, I don’t care if you ‘got his story’, if a dude is charged with a FELONY, he’s suspended til further notice brother. If he played, your level of scum-bag-ness has reached new heights. Congrats on that Cheaty McPete.
GA-OtherUSC:
Georgia just didn’t look great in this game. I don’t know if they just assumed that South Carolina would roll over and die, but they played like it and were lucky to escape with a W.
Auburn-WHO?:
#9 in the country? With a 3-2 victory? BUT IT WAS IN THE SEC! SO IT MUST HAVE BEEN AGAINST A GOOD TEAM! WAH WAH WAH!
Dude, 3-2!!!!!!!! #9 in the country doesn’t score 3 points and win by 1 against…who was that again?!?! Over. Rated.
UCLA Flameout:
This was a bummer to see. Craft led that great comeback against Tennessee (who’s in the SEC so they must be great!) after a terrible first half. This game he looked like that first half again, and UCLA just plain fell apart. I was hoping to see them continue the cinderella story since it was such a good one, but they just got pounded. Worst loss in 75 years? Ouch.
Tropic Thunder:
This has nothing to do with CFB (although it somewhat reveals my deep down feeling about almost all UM (sucks!) fans, except of course DTK who is cool), but this has got to be one of the best lines ever, so I leave you with it – “Now I want you to take a step back… and literally f–k your own face!”Â
Go Irish. 2-0 baby.

Yes you were right!
We even blocked!
Maybe our defense will carry us untill the ‘O’ is well oiled and finely tuned.
I feel like I have been reborn. Yes Michigan was weak this year, but the Irishlooked like a real football team and they played with passion. Gotta love Weis and coaching through it.
Charlie called the fans out in the prep rally to make it as loud as possible when Thre-ridan was looking to the sidelines for offensive plays. Boy did he get it. I dont think there was a single defensive posession that the crowd wasnt screaming. Michigan(sucks!) was so out of sync it was funny.
Final thought of the game…it was freaking WET. I dont know how I’m gonna get home, everything I own is soaked.
Totally different team from Week 1. Still upset that I seen Irish fans fraternizing with Michigan fans before the game. This shit has to stop!!!! You would not ever see that happen at a SEC school.
Faust, I understand your concern. But I go to school at Florida, and we often have civil pregame conversations with opposing fans before the game. And I’d say Florida fans are among the most dick-ish in the country. Once the game starts, though, it’s all trash talk.
That being said, pregame conversations may include as many jabs to the other team as you deem necessary. Just no personal insults…
