Out of Charlie Weis’ presser last week, probably the most interesting bit of news involved a few position changes for some recognizable names. Most of us had picked up on Harrison Smith’s move from Safety to Linebacker, but I hadn’t heard anything at all, until now, about Steve Paskorz‘s move from linebacker to fullback.
This is a really interesting move as it gives us a pretty athletic guy at a position that really needs one. Asaph Schwapp, while a dedicated gym rat, hasn’t shown a lot of athleticism to this point. Luke Schmidt has been splitting time between TE and FB during the spring. So if nothing else, Steve’s move provides some scholarship depth at the position. That’s the worst-case. But let’s think about the best-case for a moment.
In high school, Paskorz ran for 1291 yards on 160 carries as a junior. That’s better than 8 yards per carry. And he clocked a 4.5 in the forty. So, best-case, we’ve got ourselves a tough, hard knocking kid who, according to his coach, “loves to punish defenders.” And, oh, by the way, he has some actual agility too. Don’t look now, but we might just have a lead-blocker in the works.
Excellent.

I read of the position changes. For me it’s sort of a wait and see mode.
