The “U” hired Randy Shannon to ‘turn things around’ down there with that Miami program.Â

I have three main thoughts on this.
1) Way to go outside the program to fix things. Don’t you think that might have made sense? If Larry Coker had issues controlling his team, which means his staff had issues doing so, why would you go within the staff to replace him?  That is just dumb. From both an executional and a PR point of view.
2) Hiring a new head coach from your Defensive Coordinator position is not smart.  Google “Bob Davie” and you will see what I mean.
3) Shouldn’t Donna Shananananan (hey hey hey, goodbye) have been the one fired? I mean, yeah, Coker had some responsibility. But she was the one that could have taken a few steps and fix the problems.  Starting with REAL punishments for players when they get into brawls on a regular basis. Instead, she gets Coker fired, which takes the heat off her. Classy woman.
In the end, nothing will change at Thug U. They will still recruit troubled guys with sketchy pasts that are fast and unintelligent. They will still get guys that will carry guns, take cheap shots, and think of themselves as more of a gang than a team.  Until Miami takes itself seriously by changing the guard at the top, and thereby changing the culture of that program, things will be the same. Things will remain Thug.Â
Yoy.

Glad you’re reading the site.

my post was not focused on the “News” part. it was my highly insightful/unique/entertaining commentary. i didnt want to write all that as a comment on your column. so i wrote my own.
bite it!
and call me back already.
The Biscuit
and i love how excited/inspired Kyle Wright was about it:
“It’s an interesting hire,” Miami quarterback Kyle Wright told ESPN’s Joe Schad. “It’s ironic that after a nationwide search, it ends up being coach Shannon. We’ll have to see how it turns out. He’s highly respected here. We know how he operates and conducts himself, so we won’t have to get used to a new style of play. What I want to see now is who we get as offensive coordinator.”

Damn. I keep forgetting to call you back.
Hah! “Yeah. Super. I thought we were rid of these a-holes.”
Actually, Shannon’s possibly a very good hire. He certainly deserves a shot as a HC somewhere, why not Miami?
The Biscuit
for reasons 1 through 3 in my post! you duh!
first you say i don’t read my own web page. then i say that i wrote it to expound on my reasons why they shouldnt have hired him, and then you respond with ‘why not Miami?’.
i am starting to wonder about you Q…
Carolina Hound
Yeah, definetly don’t hire a defensive coach, like Schiano or Belichik or Parcells

Carolina Hound,
You’re not appreciating the “Fog of Bob Davie” effect. It’s like the “Fog of War” except way, way worse.
