In an effort to sap all 15 minutes of fame the Georgia Tech football program is now enjoying as Notre Dame’s first victim opponent, they’ve taped a new television spot you can see here (until I can figure out how to embed these damned videos correctly).
It’s clear that Chan Gailey has not only learned from Bob Davie the art of Expecations Management, but it seems that the Padawan has surpassed the Master because Chan shows a feel for subtelty in his message, “Holy Crap! Do you have any idea how impossible my job is? How am I supposed to recruit any REAL talent here if you make me stick with some silly notion like standards?” (I’m paraphrasing, of course.)
Other evidence that Chan is at least ahead of Davie in his Expecations Management Repetoire include the fact that they filmed the spot inside the Georgia Tech stadium without a game actually being played on the field. Bob Davie never had so much clout as to actually be allowed into the stadium except on gameday, and even then with a police escort. We are quite sure that there was no game being played in this spot because of the conspicuous absence of flying fish and whiskey bottles. However, EDSBS points out that the Georgia Tech Memorial Stadium For Guys Who Know Math Good will probably look much like this in future games if Chan continues to coach.
