Now it’s time to reveal which ND fan entertained us on Twitter while the Irish played in 2015.
It’s a new champion.
No one will be shocked by the name (if you’ve followed along with us this year.)
Ah, tangent. Thank you to the 627 Twitter users who contributed to our recap this year.
We truly could not have done it without you.
I’m going to unveil the final Top 25 poll, but first some fast facts about the Fiesta Bowl recap:
Newcomers: We had 20 of those. It’s also good to diversify the group, so we thank you.
So many good tweets, but I narrowed it down to 185 from 101 unique contributors.

Your 2015 #HLSRecap champion

Figured out who our new #HLSRecap champion is yet? If not, read on…

One final reminder of how keep score (because what good is having a recap without awarding arbitrary points?):

1 point for each tweet featured in the #HLSRecap

0.5 points for each tweet of yours that is RT’ed or quoted, giving credit for the alley & oop (the exception is if the original tweet is already included in the recap. Then it’s 1 point.)

An arbitrary amount of T.R.O.L.L. points (The Ranking Of the Leprechaun Legion) handed out by the man that started this monster, @Irish Elvis.

The ballots are in. The votes are tallied.

The staff here at HLS has done our patriotic duty to exercise our right to vote on the top 25 teams in all of college football…save for one staff member that abstained…

America!

HLS Top 25 – Week 10

[table “” not found /]

Notre Dame may have not budged in the other human polls, but we here at HLS had to drop them down a peg after struggling to Pitt while Oregon had a solid win against USC. We might be homers, but we are fair homers.

Now that we are approaching the home stretch of the season, most of the poll changes are happening near the bottom. This week, we feature five new teams in our top 25 (including the return of the MAC!) with one, UCLA reaching as high as 18. The middle of the rankings continue to be a dog fight with many teams moving one or two spots weekly in the 10-20 spots as well.

We are definitely due for another major shakeup. I wouldn’t call this the calm before the storm, but rather that moment when the threatening clouds have long since arrived and the rain and wind is starting to pick up.

Oh, and as far as our lone absentee this week — that honor goes to Biscuit. Feel free to rib him for being the first in history to flat out decline, but to be fair the guy is insanely busy this week and knew he wouldn’t be able to get it out in any timely fashion. So really, we all owe him one for taking one for the team so we could get this out today.

As for everyone else, here’s how the voting broke down:

After spending the past seven weeks as the unanimous #1 in the HLS Top 25, a couple of the HLS staff members have seen enough to cast their first place votes elsewhere. However, the Tide keeps their #1 spot and the rest of the top of the poll remains rather stable. Most of the shuffling this week came at the bottom of our list, but it is only a matter of time before another large shake up.

It’s the calm before the storm.

HLS Top 25 – Week 8

[table “” not found /]

Oregon has impressed enough to grab two first place votes from Alabama, but remain at #2 and #1 respectively just as they have for most of the season.

The Irish actually fall a spot to #4 as the Florida Gators leapfrog them into #3 with Kansas State rounding out the top five.

The HLS Staff is in line with the BCS standings for future Irish opponent, Oklahoma, as the Sooners hop two spots to #8 in the nation. Other Irish opponents in our top 25 are Stanford at #19 and Michigan reclaims a top 25 spot by sliding into#23 after being unranked last week. Future Irish opponent USC continues to hold stead to their top ten spot at #9 after their loss to Stanford earlier this season.

The big loser this week is South Carolina who drops down eleven spots to #18. We are seriously mean when you lose.

Now, our computer poll is again absent, but I am hoping to rectify that situation with a bit of free time tomorrow. Here’s hoping everything goes according to plan for a change. With that said, here are the staff polls for this week:

This is the time of college football season that I love the most. It’s the time when we begin the cream of the college football crop rises to the top. No longer are teams able to shield themselves with weak out-of-conference opponents. Now they have to play teams on their own level.

Thanks to that, we’ve had the most movement ever in the HLS Top 25. For the first time ever, we had a team dropped that was previously in the top 15. Three teams dropped more than ten spots. We have three new teams in the top five. And I decided to take my ballot in a completely different direction this week.

But first, the results:

HLS Top 25 – Week 6

[table “” not found /]

South Carolina and Notre Dame are the big winners this week as both jump into our top five. While the Gamecocks were able to do so on the back of a dominating performance against previously ranked #4 Georgia, the Irish get a homer boost thanks to their beating of unranked Michigan.

In all honesty though, I’m not too surprised as I would wager most of the staff was trying to hold back from overly optimistic rankings. However, with Miami’s drubbing, and the Irish’s defense continuing to dominate, we’ve passed the koolaid around here at HLS and are happily drinking.

HLS is also happily sippin’ on some Beaver juice as Oregon State rockets up into the top ten.

The big losers this week were TCU, Florida State, and Georgia. Each suffered humiliating losses causing them all to lose over ten spots in our rankings. TCU went from #15 to out of the rankings. Florida State and Georgia both fell twelve spots after their respective embarrassments.

We also have three non-BCS teams in the top 25 for the first time ever as Louisiana Tech, Boise State, and Ohio all round out our top 25. Although I’m going to take full credit for Ohio joining the fold.

You see, with us now nearly halfway into the season, I decided it was time to stop subjectively ranking one-loss teams above undefeated opponents. So as you will see in my poll below, it is undefeated teams that aren’t UTSA (as they have seriously played no one) and then one-loss teams. I’m definitely going to be rolling that way the rest of the season, even if I’m the only one here at HLS willing to be that crazy.

HLS Staff Polls

This week’s rankings would’ve been rather pedestrian if not Washington’s upset of Stanford. There was very minimal movement save for the nose dive the Stanford Cardinal took. If there’s one thing that’s been consistent thus far, you lose, the HLS staff punishes you. Just how far did they fall? Let’s find out: HLS Top 25...

Let’s find out:

HLS Top 25 Week 5

[table “” not found /]

Yep, that’s a full nine spot drop for Stanford, landing just inside the top 20.

Ohio State and Oregon State were the two teams that saw the biggest movement thanks to their quality wins this past week. Yep, we are gladly sipping on some Beaver Juice right now.

Unfortunately, these rankings do not include any computer rankings as promised. Unfortunately, with the server move/issues I’ve been working on, that part of the poll took a backseat. The last thing I want to do is throw out something sloppy and it is still very early in the season.

As far as when it will debut, I’m hoping for week 7 or 8. Keyword: hoping.

Now for the staff’s ballots:

This year, HLS will be doing its own poll throughout the season. Think of it as a selection committee much like we will have in 2014: a small group of experts that actually watch the games. We will also have a computer poll starting in week 5 as the NDtex25 formula will makes its return. I’m still hard at work making sure this latest piece of technology is fully revamped from last season, but for now, let’s take a look at how the HLS staff voted:

HLS Top 25 – Week 1

So after week 1, HLS has a unanimous #1 and almost had a unanimous #2. All of our individual polls can be found below so you can see how we voted.

Want to know why we voted the way we did? Sound off in the comments. Unlike most polls, you actually have direct access to the voters here at HLS!
