Apologies for the delayed Roundup this week.
I thought I was going to have all day yesterday to write. After all, I’m on vacation for my sister-in-law’s wedding and all I have to do is show up. So while my wife was running around yesterday with her sister doing wedding things, I was supposed to have nothing at all.
My job had other ideas. I had to put in a few hours addressing some major needs, but even then, I figured it would eat up my entire day. I would just wake up early, get things done around lunch and I’d have plenty of time until the rehearsal dinner to crank this out.
The only problem with that plan was I didn’t arrive here in Springfield until 4:30 AM.
My wife and I decided to fly out to Chicago for this trip. We did so because we decided ending this trip with a Cubs game would be a good idea. After all, it’s a Friday wedding, so why not make a weekend out of it?
The fun started when storms popped up around the DFW area which delayed our flight crew from arriving. The delay was quoted as a few minutes, a length of time that roughly rounds up to two hours. We boarded the plane a little after 10:00 PM. We figured we’d arrive in Chicago just a little after midnight and probably roll in to Springfield around 2:00 AM. Not ideal, but not too brutal.
The brutal part came during the taxi to takeoff. Our plane stops and the pilot announced that O’Hare has grounded all planes flying to them due to storms in their area. We were told we wouldn’t get another update until 11:00 PM which is what you love to hear when you are already on the plane and away from the gate.
That update didn’t bring any good news either as O’Hare still had their grounding in place. It wasn’t until about 11:45 PM until we actually got clearance to leave.
Arriving in O’Hare made me feel a little bit better about our situation. The airport had transformed into a city of cots and brought back terrible memories of when United Airlines completely dropped the ball on Thanksgiving travelers while I was at ND.
We finally arrived in Springfield, dead tired and hating life. About 4 hours of sleep later, I threw myself into a blur of work up until the wedding rehearsal.
Thankfully, I have finally slept and am praying that the rest of this weekend goes smoothly.

Dammit.
The Roundup
Yes, the O’Bannon trail was the biggest news in college football. However, you will find no links in this edition of the Roundup. With the limited time that I’ve had this week, I haven’t been able to a find a source actually trying to take a look at both sides of the issue and not trying to light the NCAA on fire. Look for coverage here in the coming weeks.

Can’t wait for the confusion on how a cryptocurrency sponsors a bowl. Or for people to wonder what the hell a cryptocurrency is for that matter, but either way Bitcoin has found it’s way into bowl sponsorship thanks to BitPay.
And now your moment of Nix… We aren’t really in the hilarious category this week, but this definitely fills in the “awesome” factor that also tends to occupy this space:
Just finished my first day of classes. Little rusty but, feels good to be back on campus. @NDFootball #NotreDame

Welcome back to campus, Ricky.
The Booze
I recommended a Texan beer last week in my World Cup themed post and the US won. I’m not going to break that streak.
I may be in Illinois for now, but when I return home after the Cubs game, I’m going to have a St. Arnold’s Summer Pils in my future.
Go Yanks, beat Portugal.
