It seems just about every college football blog around has made sure to get a World Cup piece, so the Roundup is as good a place as any for ours. And no, don’t worry, this won’t be an entire piece on how to relate the World Cup or its competitors to college football or its teams.
Quite frankly, I’m just not that creative to make those stretches.
In all seriousness, if there is one thing the World Cup does have in common with college football it’s the passion. More than that, it’s hoping against hope that the impossible can happen every game. We have hope until it is forcefully taken from us.
After all, there were periods of time in which it was feasible freakin’ Ty Willingham and Charlie Weis led teams might just have a shot. Well…at least in my mind when I walked onto campus as a gullible freshman in 2003 and back in 2005 when I happily drank the Weis koolaid as a student manager.
I can’t help it, I love Notre Dame. Despite trying to look at the games in a logical manner here before and after, when the game actually arrives, the blue and gold glasses are on.
So, yes, even though Jürgen Klinsmann says winning the Cup isn’t realistic, I’m going to hope against hope because I love America, dammit. It isn’t over unless I witness the group of death murder us.
This is also likely the reason why every sport I follow is going to kill me before I’m 50.
The Roundup

Well, this is certainly one way to describe the difficulty of the NCAA trying to regulate everything. It’s also kind of hard to disagree.
Want an interesting study on the Big Ten? Let’s play “just how terrible are their out of conference schedules”? Granted the study doesn’t include games against ND, but it’s a real eye opener.
Photoshop recruiting savant, Joker Phillips has resigned. The reason? Someone associated with Miami caught him sitting a restaurant with a recruit during a dead period.
And now your moment of Nix… Introducing Chef Bob Diaco.
The Booze
I’m sticking with summer seasonals, but going local with Shiner Bock Ruby Redbird.
