Earlier this week, we reported on Tim Brown’s historical move to sign a female running back to his Indoor Football League (IFL) team, the Texas Revolution. Dr. Jennifer Welter, formerly a linebacker in her pro women’s league, still had one more hurdle to climb in her historical journey: making the active roster for the regular season.
The Dallas Morning News reports that she has done so:
The Indoor Football League’s Allen-based Texas Revolution announced Wednesday that Jennifer Welter has made the 24-player regular-season active roster and will suit up in Friday night’s regular-season opener against Cedar Rapids at Allen’s Special Events Center.
Welter, who is 5-2, 130 pounds and 36-years old, carried three times for minus -1yard in the Revolution’s 64-30 preseason victory over the North Texas Crunch last Saturday, becoming the first woman to compete in a men’s pro football game in a position other than kicker or place-holder.
“Though there remains work to be done before she can fully contribute on the field, Jen provides an instant and positive impact on our team and organization as a whole,” Revolution president Tommy Benzio said. “The lineup has been inspired by her courage as have women and girls from across the country.”
Congrats to Jennifer as well as our own Tim Brown for becoming a part of history!
