I’ve got a mole in the Michigan Fan Base. We’ll call him Deep TeaKup. He’ll understand why. He may even laugh, but Michigan fans are not known for their senses of humor.
Now, why would TeaKup give up any insider information about Michigan? Well, for one, he’s from Canada, and ever since Benedict Arnold sold out, Canadians have had a long and proud tradition of backstabbing. And for another thing, everything he’s about to share with us is something any other commited football fan could have derived from watching both of Michigan’s 2006 games thus far.
Sayeth TeaKup about the Meatchickens:
Not really a power running game, think Denver Broncos or the University of Minnesota, lots of cut backs no real designed holes per se, often called the zone blocking scheme. Need a good d-line to stop it. The passing game has not looked good at all this year, line can not pass block consistently and there does not seem to be a classic UM type playmaker at the position just yet. I am hoping that the lack of passing game was due to the fact that neither team could not stop the run but I have my doubts. Defense is MUCH improved, actually quite amazing to see considering that there are not a bunch of new players there. The new DC is a scary looking dude, I am scared he is going to yell at me through the TV for just sitting there. I don’t think Walker will be able to carve this D up the way he has the last two games. Carlson worries me though, he looks like a great TE and UM always struggles against great TE’s. Lamarr Woodley is actually going to kill a QB this year, literally, not saying it is going to be Quinn, but there is a good chance for a fatality at some point this year. Kickoff coverage has been mediocre to awful, some white dude from British Columbia just had 167 yards on 6 returns last week.Good to see the confidence has returned to ND, maybe this year you guys can actually be like the rest of college football and beat MSU.
This is an interesting game and a very important one for the overall state of the program at UM. If UM does not win at least one of OSU or ND on the road this year, this may be it for Lloyd, at the very least it will guarantee that he has no say in his successor. Some of the early predictions are calling for an ND blowout and those are just the kind of games that Lloyd used to win (PSU 97, MSU last year, OSU 1999-2000, Iowa 2004). My early prediction is 24-21 for UM and ND Nation finally gets to see why UM fans love Mike Hart.
So, there ya have it. Our first annual insider’s report from behind the lines of the Michigan Fan Base. Hopefully we can make this an HLS tradition for every year that Michigan will man up enough (Edit: BGS Found this, much better link) to play ND. I’m sure you’ll find it worth every penny of our membership fee.
