After a humiliating loss to the San Diego Chargers on Monday Night Football, the Oakland Raiders have made an unprecedented move, demoting themselves from the ranks of the NFL and into the Western Athletic Conference.
“I’m really excited about this move,” Al Davis, ownner of the former NFL franchise said Tuesday, “We looked for an opportunity to join one of the larger BCS conferences, but the only taker we had was the Big Ten, so we latched onto the WAC instead.”
The Oakland Raiders players echoed the excitement of Davis. “This is great. We’re right where we want to be. I think we’ll be pretty competitive in the WAC. And it looks like we’ll be able to schedule a few BCS level teams early in the season. Who knows? Maybe we’ll be able to steal a game or two from the big boys,” Raider Quarterback Aaron Brooks deadpanned.
One issue that needs to be addressed by Al Davis and his franchise is the matter of compensation. As NFL players, the Oakland Raiders were paid as professional athletes. In the NCAA, this is not allowed.
“Well, we thought of that, and I can tell you we’ve got a few conference calls set up to discuss how to address this with a few other NCAA programs. Oklahoma, Miami, FSU just to name a few,” Davis said.
