On Saturday, I started a 24-hour charity marathon stream, the beginning of which was completely devoted to Notre Dame’s gigantic matchup, and, ultimately, a victory, against the (former) #1 team in the land, Clemson. What I could have never expected was that the guests and segments that I would have during this stream would create a time capsule of one of the most extraordinary Saturdays in ND history.

A huge thank you to all my guests and especially all the donors to my Extra Life campaign. As of this episode’s release, you have helped me raise over $12,000 for the Blake Shelton Cancer Research Fund at the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Oklahoma City in honor of Aven. While the marathon is done, donations are open until the end of the year via extralife.ndtex.com–I hear donations of $47.40 are particularly popular these days.

People love picking bowls. People, I’ve also come to learn, also enjoy prizes. So, as an added bonus for those who participate and just as importantly, as a way of thanking you all who read our articles all throughout the year, HLS will be offering prizes to the top 2 participants in Bowl Mania. The prizes are as follows:

1st Place – $100 gift card to the Hammes Bookstore (this is Notre Dame’s official bookstore, people)

So, how do you play? Glad you asked:

1. Sign-up for the HLS/ND Fan Radio Bowl Pick’em group through ESPN’s Capital One Bowl Mania game. That can be done here.

2. Pick the winner of each game.

3. Arrange the games by confidence points. Basically, you’re going to put the most points on the game you’re most confident in your selection. You’ll put the least points on the game you’re least confident in. You then get the points for each game correctly selected. Don’t worry, we’re not using the spread.

4. You’ll have to have an ESPN account or create one to play. Sorry, there’s no way around this.

5. There is a limit of one entry per person. We reserve the right to select a new winner if we believe any shenanigans are going on.

6. The ability to enter the group locks at 2:00 PM ET on December 19, 2015 (The time of first kickoff). You can change your winner and your confidence in remaining games on a game by game basis.

7. In case you’re wondering, all members of Her Loyal Sons and ND Fan Radio are excluded from receiving the prizes. In the (likely) event that we’re smarter than the rest of you (PROVE ME WRONG!), the highest ranking entry not from a HLS/ND Fan Radio member will be awarded the prize.

8. Finally, if you are a prize winner, you must be willing to communicate with our staff and provide a valid mailing address where the prize can be sent. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves….

Last season our Silent Auction benefiting the ND General Scholarship Fund and Kelly Cares raised over $1,000 for these two worthy causes, and hooked up some Irish fans with tickets to some quality football games. This year, we’re doing it again, and BIGGER!

We have 3 sets of tickets to bid on! 2 sets of 2 to Oklahoma (or you can bid on all 4), and 2 tix to MSU.

Here’s how it works:

1) Email your bid to herloyalsons at gmail

2) Include in the subject SILENT AUCTION BID: PACKAGE X. If you want both OK sets, it’s PACKAGE 2 + 3.

3) Specify the game (details below) and your TOTAL BID. This is the total amount you’re bidding, NOT the per ticket amount. Please do not say “Hey Biscuit, how about I give you $X right now and you call it a day?”. That’s not how a silent auction works, and it’s not how we raise the most money. So, my answer before you ask: no thanks, just bid high buddy!

4) Sit back, and wait. We will close the bidding on Wednesday, 8/21, in time for the annual pep rally. Bid early, and bid as high as you can go. One of last year’s winners eeked it out by a few bucks!

5) Winners only will be notified via email. If you hear nothing, you didn’t win (sorry!) and you can’t up your bid at that point. So again, bid high! Payment will be accepted via paypal (preferred) or check, and tickets will be mailed via trackable FedEx upon receipt.
