Je vous remercie de vos aimables paroles, fils. You've got to move when the Spirit says to. If we hadn't, we would still have problems with a malarial swamp, and there would be a pile of ashes where the Main Building sits. Your knowledge of la belle langue française is admirable. But then you should also know that, like fine wine or cheese, age brings out one's best features. You're not antique - you're just hitting your stride.

Merci, Mon Pere - c'est formidable! Mais pas une surprise, que le Fondateur comprend bien les compromis!
Which is to say it is not surprising that our Founder understands compromise -- because as hard headed and stubborn as you were, Mon Pere, you knew when to bend with the wind.
BTW -- I love these occasional columns, Padre - keep it up!
Sincerely,
More Noise (current resident of the home of Notre Dame, namely France; ND '68, alum of Holy Cross... (wait for it)... Seminary (yes, prior to Holy Cross Hall, the now demolished building was a seminar for high school students), and a Farley Hall (male) alum. So obviously, antique enough to get this!
