"Worst still was his tendency to fail to manage the team before the snap - something Rees excels at, even if he does seem a bit confused after the snap."

Such a painfully correct sentence that sums up much of our problems this year.

I used to complain about how usually only QBs get any love in Heisman contention (with some RBs), but after watching the FSU game, I get it. It doesn't matter if you have one of the best receivers in the game, the best tight end, an elite RB, and a very good offensive line -- if you keep throwing it to the other team instead, you lose.

The top-10 or tied for Turnover Margin in 2011 is...

1	LSU
2	Oklahoma St.
3	Toledo
4	Houston
4	Wisconsin
6	North Carolina St.
7	Kent St.
7	Memphis
9	Cincinnati
9	Kansas St.
9	San Diego St.
9	Wyoming

Not exactly a cadre of elite programs.

"Major advantages in turnover margin wont make you a great team"

Disagree, top five in turnover margin in 2011:
LSU
Oklahoma St
Kansas St
Houston
Wisconsin

Go look at the preseason ranking of those teams and how they finished in the final standings. Turnover margin is more meaningful than any statistic other than wins.

I'm not exactly sure Rees would've been running any system very well. The mistakes he made during games were a result of failing to make correct reads, the same that he would've had to make in any system (save for a pure option attack).

How exactly has Meyer adapted a system ever, aside from just running different plays more often for certain QBs?

As a traditionalist, one of my regrets is that college football has evolved from a world where coaches built systems around their players each year, to a world where players must be able to run the coach's system. I'm not a Kelly-basher, but I'm tired of the reasons for failure being that the players aren't able to run the system or the recruits who know the system are not in the door yet. I think that's a cop-out by the coaches, particularly in Weis' and Kelly's cases. I know this isn't 1988, but what Lou did well, and I think others like Meyer and Stoops have done since, was adapt their system to their players. Tony Rice and Rick Mirer were very different quarterbacks, but we were able to succeed with both. Is it a bygone concept, or can we somehow get back to that?
