Imagine taking the ‘Backer placing it outdoors and you might start to have an idea of what this looked like. But even then, that description doesn’t quite to this event justice.

Thousands of people attended. Over 10,000 beers were purchased along with over 32,000 ounces of water, chilled by over 5,000 pounds of ice in ten 15-gallon coolers (and a truck bed or two) — a haul that required three U-Haul trailers. 50 cars created a caravan to block of the tailgate area. Beer pong and flip cup games were scattered about the entire tailgate. People were dancing on top of vehicles. Even our friends at Rent Like a Champion got in on the fun and provided a DJ to play music for 6 hours — and organize what had to have been the largest shotgun in ND tailgating history.

The entire tailgate was funded purely by donations from attendees. The response was so overwhelming, the organizers were able make a donation to the “Sad Irish Fan” donation campaign for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Yes, we came, we saw, we partied, we donated to a good cause. File that under the ever-growing list of “most Notre Dame things ever.”

Major props to the guys that had the dream and organization skills to pull this off. It was incredible — let’s do it again next year.
