The offseason being "easier" is relative. It's basically a year-round commitment. The spring semester still finds loads of hours thrown into football, including workouts in the winter months at the asscrack of dawn.

Summer courses definitely help, but what is available there are mostly electives. So you will absolutely see every football player getting classes in, and it's how people can pull off graduating in three years, but knocking out a "hard" course isn't guaranteed.

Personally, I was only able to take advantage of one summer semester (scholarship didn't kick in until summer of '06 to afford). I was able to get my fine arts credit out of the way. Easy course, but did help in the long run as I only had to take 9 hours spring semester of my senior year which was AWESOME.

I don't disagree with what you wrote here, I definitely agree that playing football and having to be a college student cannot be easy. I will say, though that I don't think it's AS unbelievably difficult because the season doesn't last all school year. You can confirm or deny this thought, but I would imagine most athletes take their required courses that are more difficult outside of the season for their sport(at least I would). Then, to further simplify things I would imagine most of them take mini-mester courses and summer courses to help make the academic load in-season a little simpler.
