Freshman OG Boudreaux Contracts Meningitis

Parker Boudreaux, a freshman offensive guard from Florida, re-tweeted a post Sunday that he has been admitted to the hospital after contracting what appears to be meningitis.

Scott Daly, the team’s long snapper, broke the news in a now-deleted tweet that mentioned Boudreaux’s hospitalization for what Daly termed a “serious brain infection.” The fifth-year senior later tweeted, “Apologize for alarming everyone. Didn’t have all the information. Parker is going to be OK. Excited for him to be back with us soon.”

Boudreaux tweeted Sunday that he was “not doing that well.” At this point, it’s unclear if the freshman has viral or bacterial meningitis, the former of which is considered less serious and can usually be eradicated within 10 days of diagnosis.

Despite not yet playing a snap for the Irish, Boudreaux has already endeared himself to many Notre Dame fans through his active engagement on social media. Boudreaux towed a 16,000 pound bus to reveal his commitment to the Irish last July.

Here are some other Irish headlines:

  • Twins Commit to Kelly – You didn’t step into a time machine and this isn’t 1987. Justin and Jayson Ademilola, twin brothers from New Jersey, both announced Sunday they were committing to Notre Dame. Both play on the defensive line, with Justin coming for quarterbacks on the outside and Jayson coming from the inside. They are currently juniors at St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City, which should already be familiar to Irish fans. Sophomore quarterback Brandon Wimbush matriculated from the same school.
  • Fuller Inks Texans Deal – Former Irish wide receiver Will Fuller has signed his rookie contract with the Houston Texans. That four-year deal is worth $10.164 million, including a $5.592 million signing bonus. The Texans will have the option of picking Fuller up for a fifth year if they so desire. By all accounts, Fuller thrived in the Texans’ organized team activities, demonstrating the lightning speed and efficient route running that lead to 2,512 yards and 30 touchdowns in a little more than 2 full seasons.
  • Hunter Jr. Signs Baseball Contract With Angels – Torii Hunter Jr. has signed his contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, but it’s not going to change his life in any immediate way. Hunter Jr.’s mom told ND Insider her son will remain enrolled in summer classes instead of reporting to a Angels’ minor league affiliate. The signing also does not affect his amateur status in football, where Hunter Jr. is expected to be a valuable piece of the Irish’s offense in 2016. Since Hunter Jr. spent his freshman season rehabbing from a broken leg suffered before enrolling at Notre Dame, he has a potential fifth-year option to play for the Irish in 2017 if he chooses to exercise it.
  • Bob Diaco Makes JFK’s Fettuccine Alfredo Recipe – The former Irish defensive coordinator, who is now Connecticut’s head coach, talks about his first post-college job as a car salesman, taking the LSATs, riding a motorcycle and the recipe he indirectly inherited from the 35th president of the United States.
