I can see this turning into a black hole. Tracking who penetrates the LOS, who gets the sack, who hits the QB, who causes a hurry.

Why do we do this to ourselves? Curiosity killed the blogger.

1) Damnit, Tex!

2) I would love that data. Perhaps something we can track in season this year.

Two things:

1) ND ranked 69 last season--Nice!

2) I think another underlying measure of success would be the sack rate from a normal 4-man pass rush. BVG is huge on the blitzing, and while I am certainly not against pressure via the blitz, causing havoc in the backfield with just four guys is huge.

My theory would be that the two are rather heavily correlated. More often than not, I believe the best QBs/O-Lines are very good at reading, picking up, and exposing a blitz when they don't have to worry about the 4 guys that are always rushing. If you know a DE is a threat to get in the backfield, that's where the primary focus will be, allowing a blitzer to come free and planting a QB on the ground.
