Ever wonder how Notre Dame affords the necessary salary to keep the head football coaching job filled with the best-of-the-best? It’s donations like this that help the university make sure the leader of the football team is qualified to keep Notre Dame Football always in the hunt and that he’s paid competitively compared to other top-tier Division I NCAA football coaches.
Notre Dame alumnus Richard Corbett recently gave the University $35 million to endow the head football coaching position as well as fund building construction.
Richard Corbett, who is president and CEO of Florida-based Concorde Cos., earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Notre Dame in 1960. He later earned a business degree from Harvard.
$25 million of the $35 million donation will go towards an anthropology, psychology and digital media building which is currently under construction near the football stadium in the “Crossroads Project” which began construction in November of 2014. The 280,000-square-foot building will be named the Corbett Family Hall.
The remaining $10 million dollars has been earmarked to create an endowment to fund the head football coaching position.
Set your worries aside … Notre Dame will continue to be able to afford a head football coach who will be able to keep Notre Dame football poised and ready to win that next National Title.
Author’s sidenote: The “Where Are They Now?” series will be returning shortly. Coming soon to the series: outside linebacker walk-on Tom Galloway, quarterback Evan Sharpley, ’88 national championship team kicker Reggie Ho, and many more! Hey Lisa,
I would love if you did a “where are they now” of Vontez Duff. He was one of my favorites from my early ND fandom years. He was a staple on defense for Tyrone Willingham’s first season in ’02, and I just remember falling in love with the squad that season and never looking back.

Awesome suggestion!! Thank you! 🙂

ND HC is actually only paid 1/8 of what Saban and Harbaugh make. Therefore, it is not a competitive salary. Sorry to burst your bubble.
Lisa
I guess that’s what happens when you coach at a school that values academics! 🙂
