Officer McCarthy was a man. His puns were well-intentioned and his message was authentic. That he brought such humor and dedication to his task made it a craft and made him an icon. And since I mentioned sheep, I feel it appropriate to quote my favorite McCarthy-ism: remember, if you choose to drink and drive and get pulled over, if you try to pull the wool over a trooper’s eyes, he might just see through the yarn.
