Right on, Padre. Especially the hard truth that we are all sinners. Some overly righteous among us might claim, “I would never have done this or that.” But we are all profoundly, ridiculously, comically imperfect. Remove the plank in your own eye etc etc etc.
The hypothetical student is a sinner, too. But from what I have seen/heard, he’s a better imitator of Christ than I am.
Thanks for the reality check, with a sprinkling of theology. Or may be it was the other way around. In any case, thanks.

I have said on occasion and I repeat it here – Notre Dame does a lot of things well, but humble is not one of them.

This snarky little piece is but further proof of that.

Events of the last few days have turned Notre Dame into a laughingstock all over the country and there is no end in sight yet. We might as well get used to it because NOTHING is going to change this – Notre Dame was snookered, Manti Te’o was snookered, the media was snookered and the people who bought into the story as part of Notre Dame’s effort to get another Heisman Trophy in the trophy room have been snookered – just about all of us. Notre Dame likes to think and speak of herself in very lofty terms and so do her loyal sons, daughters and subway alumni, but there is no denying that we have been humiliated.

Those who hate Notre Dame are in their heyday right now, but eventually they will crawl back to wherever they came from and another story will take its place. But this will never go away completely.

This was a wonderful article not only about the sad happenings of this week, but because it points out how important and powerful the Sacrament of Reconciliation is. Sadly, too few people utilize this beautiful sacrament. My husband has encouraged me and my son to confess much more often that the usual twice a year we used to do. I can honestly say that numerous graces have flowed since turning our hearts more towards God.

I hope others will read this and make some time to go to confession to experience the peacefulness that comes from it. We are all fallen. We are all sinners trying to become saints. What better way to make that journey easier?
