When I arrived on campus my freshman year, the seniors were full of stories about how much has changed. And then when I was a senior, I was filling the freshman in on all they’d be missing too.

Well, I guess technically it was on suspension because of the year before.

i am one of the primary writers of the rally, and i was one of the names in the observer today. the pep rally was completely written, tryouts were about to occur, and all was ready for this thursday. i never thought i would have to say this, but please do not blame this year’s cancellation on those who spent countless hours putting the script together this summer and in the last few weeks. fr. doyle told us his decision, but (as a four year resident and RA of dillon) I find it hard to believe that it was his alone. the cancellation of the rally is, just like the scaling down of the Wake and the elimination of the Zoo, yet another move by the Dome to make Notre Dame into a Disneyland for tourists, alumni, and prospective students. the keenan review is surely the next to get the axe of censureship. we are doing our best here in Dillon to make the show go on, but if you really want to make the Dome listen, threaten to remove the only thing they respond to in the 21st century: donations.

It’s a pretty common theme this year, and I don’t like it. The administration cancelled the Fisher Zoo, the Calling (part of the Wake), and I’m sure they’re behind this Dillon Pep Rally plot. I’m also in the marching band, and they’ve been working for years to force our directors to take the last bit of unrestrained fun out of that too.

I swear, they’re trying to squeeze every last bit of unprovoked student spirit out of this university. It won’t be long until the Department of Manufactured Spirit will be all that’s left…
