It was mentioned the other day on radio here that Alford will be coaching the RBs, as well as the Slot Receivers. I think this is a great idea. They mentioned that the staff would like to see more interchangeability with some of the RBs and the Slot positions (think Ridjohnson, Atkinson, Amir Carlysle, Russell). I think this is really good news for those craving option football. It means more situations where a player like Ridjohnson or Atkinson might line up in the slot, and either motion into the backfield as part of a triple option (Wood takes the dive, QB reads out, the slot is the pitch man) or motion across the field for jet sweeps, etc.

Oregon uses their slot players in a very similar manner. Combined with Martin’s move to OC, and his history of a high percentage of runs, I think this is a continued good sign for those fans who crave option football run by the likes of “Goldrix.”
