The Saban post/poll question is a reminder of the various alternate realities I sometimes dwell on during the day, around NDFB. A few examples of “where would ND football be today….”:
If we didn’t oust Holtz?
If Randy Moss enrolled?
If we didn’t lose to BC after our win against FSU?
If O’Leary coached and we had Bill O’Brien as an offensive coordinator (that’s a bit obscure, but something I’ve been thinking about recently – just for fun).
etc. etc.
It’s a fruitless exercise, and better when served alongside pitchers of beer and friends – but whatever. Any favorites come to mind for you guys/gals?

“If SoCal hadn’t been given the ball back in ’05 when they fumbled it, and Bush hadn’t been allowed to push…”

If Kevin White had never been born…
If the Phantom Clip hadn’t been called…
If we had installed a jumbotron before it was cool…
If Arnaz Battle hadn’t gotten injured…

“If Jonas Gray hadn’t fumbled on that first drive against USF”
…too soon?

In ’05 vs. Southern Cal, the issue is less SC getting the ball and more the incredibly favorable spot. I believe they should have retained possession, but I also believe that the correct spot was at the two or three yard line instead of the one.

If Rockne never died tragically and coached for another 10, 15 years.
If Ara had an incredible resistance to stress
If hiring High School coaches for the head coaching job was prohibited
If Urban accepted the offer in December 2004
