I counted 4 while watching the game on DVR tonight. Missed by the receivers. 1 on Eiffert, 1 on Gray, 2 on Jones. The first On Jones was nearly a pick-6. The other 3 were in very key situations.
Pitt actually runs a lot of exotic schemes in pass defense, using 3 DL and 1-2 DBs as a defensive front, which let’s them rush 3-5 while bringing the speed of a 1-2 DB blitz. And while it confused Rees a fair bit, it left Rees out to dry each time these receivers missed it.

as i’m typing this, I just saw the Jones misread on the hot route/read – that nearly went for 6 the other way. you definitely got the feeling early on that Pitt was sending a number of their DBs in on blitz packages

Pitt’s exotic schemes and coverage didn’t have much of an impact on Maine or Buffalo. Why ND? Why Rees?

did they run those schemes against Maine and Buffalo? in the post game interviews, it seems as if very little of what was thrown at us on Saturday was seen on game film from Pitt’s previous games.

They didn’t use any of it in the Maine game according to what i’ve heard from 2 Maine alums.

Also could’ve been the way we run our O. Seems like they 1) adjusted to our adjustments and 2) anticipated snap counts well (the ‘hint’ given by Cave isn’t helpful)
