Hey Tex, are you planning on going to the OU game as well? Any ideas on where to get some decent tix? I have it from a Big XII friend of mine that that stadium is horrible to watch a game in and the visiting team sections are in the worst parts of the stadium

We will see. I am sure you will agree that we have been deplorable in Septmber ’10 and ’11. Certainly this calls into question the “coaching” in Spring and Fall camps. Quality coaches have teams that do not make (repeatedly) mental errors. So,…….we will see. Resume aside, I personally have seen little of substance that would indicate that Coach Kelly has the stuff to fix it.

I don’t agree.

Notre Dame was deplorable all season in 2007 and arguably worse in 2003 while being shut out at home to Florida State. This team cares, it competes, it works hard and it keeps shooting itself in the foot in maddening fashion. Deplorable? No. It’s been way way worse in the very recent past.

OakND,

I couldn’t agree with you more. Just because something bad happens, or a team loses some games, does not automatically mean that the coaching is “deplorable.” We have seen deplorable coaching. We have seen Ty Willingham teams that came out and did ok in the first half, only to routinely come out and fall apart in the second half because they were incapable of making adjustments. We’ve seen Weis teams that could put together incredible game plans, but couldn’t get a 5 inch push on the line of scrimmage against vastly smaller and inferior teams. Thats deplorable coaching.

But losing games against BCS competition when you start the season isn’t justification to blame everything on coaching. As I pointed out, it took Holtz a few seasons to coach his guys up to a point where they were capable of being winners. And no one is insane enough to have blamed his losses in his first two seasons as bad coaching. Again, that doesn’t mean Kelly is comparable to Holtz (aside from having the same 16-10 record as Holtz did through his first 26 games). If we still have teams in two years that are putting together dominant games for 80% of a game and then falling apart with turnovers, then thats coaching.

But right now, I still feel we have a team that is improving, and just isn’t in a place where they can put it all together yet.
