Anyone else see this with Davonte Neal? How do you not show up to your own press conference to announce your choice? This is really strange.

Pretty strange. I hope everything works out for the kid.

Not really strange…he’s obviously going through last-minute thoughts and it’s understandable when you consider his recent family tragedy.

Regardless of who he chooses, you’d have to be worried about his commitment level if you’re a fan of that team.

I wouldn’t be. I don’t think indecision means anything in the recruiting world, unless you are indecisive because your father is asking Mississippi St. to give you 150k before another SEC school does.

This is a kid who didn’t really start his recruiting process until after his senior football season, and he’s obviously conflicted about what to do. People try to make a big deal out of these kids doing this, but nothing has changed with kids. The only thing that has changed is that we put them up in front of big news conferences to make big decisions which effect them, their families, future coaches, recruiters, current coaches, fan bases, local friends, etc.

I had a tough time figuring out where I wanted to go to college. And that decision only really effected me. I didn’t have thousands of people trying to pull me in different directions with different pitches, promising me the moon, putting cameras and mics in front of me, and treating me like I was the second coming.

Even ten years ago, it wasn’t like this. College football fans, with their ravenous appetite for the sports, have created this circus, and it seems to me like they get more and more pissed off nowadays when the animals don’t perform as expected.

And now that I’ve posted that, it looks like Davonte Neal is signing with the Irish. This is a big get for us with our depth issues at WR and CB.

It’s official…the signing took place and Neal is Irish! Makes the Greenberry loss easier. This kid will help our team on either side of the ball and on special teams.

I stick with my comment that even though he is Irish, Im nervous about him. What if after his first season & he’s not starting or getting the ball thrown at him in the 4th qtr he gets frustrated and transfers? I think the behavior today shows that propensity.
I hooe hes a great kid and an awesome teammate, but im still scared

You know, a lot of kids come to ND and figure out that it just isn’t the right fit for them. I don’t think there is anything wrong with that when it happens, and its happens once or twice a year it seems. If the kid comes here and decides later on its not the right fit, there really isn’t anything we can do about, so why worry about it.

Keep in mind that Manti Teo had a really hard time picking between us and USC, and he has been the absolute model for what you could possibly want in a young man at the University of Notre Dame.

So I’m reading the reason he missed was because a cousin of his recently died in a car accident and they were dealing with some of that? Also saw that he went to each elementary school classroom to apologize and meet the kids. If that is true, I rescind my concern about his character

I also read yesterday that Neal had given the principal the ND LOI the day before.

There were likely a multitude of reasons he had second thoughts, but in all honesty, I’m glad he canceled the dog and pony show. If he had any doubts, arguing with his father, or dealing with a family tragedy, he needed to take a step back and talk things through without a bunch of assholes on FSN Arizona trying to read his mind and being pissy a kid half their age was wasting their time.

We need our guys to be all in and I definitely hope he is. More than that, I hope the ND family makes this an easy transition for him so he can feel that he has made the best decision of his young life.

I’m not worried about him…put the ball in his hands!
