Championes! Championes! Irish Soccer Takes the Cup

HLS EFS CSC #1Notre Dame’s Men’s Soccer team captured its first national championship by winning the College Cup final 2-1 over Maryland. Goals from Leon Brown and Andrew O’Malley brought the Irish to victory on a day in which everything was just a little sunnier for the boys from South Bend.

I’m going to write more about the season this week, but work has been nuts and the tree fell over.

Good job, ND. Congrats!

Bayou Irish is a Jersey boy and Double Domer who fell under New Orleans' spell in 1995. He's been through Katrina and fourteen years in the Coast Guard, so we cut him some slack, mostly in the form of HLS-subsidized sazeracs. But, when he's not face down on the bar and communing with the ghosts of Faulkner and Capote at the Carousel Bar in the Hotel Monteleone, he's our man in SEC-land, doing his best to convince everyone around him that Graduation Success Rate is a better indicator of success than the number of MNC's won in the last five years.

This HAS to generate Olympians, right? Will we be cheering on Irish alumni in the Olympics or World Cup sometime soon?
