HLS: Historic Letter Sequence

On a warm, sunny Wednesday morning, ND Tex wrote to Father Sorin about the padre’s contribution to the HLS Top 25 Poll.  The following is ND Tex’s letter of September 5, 2012:

Will you be participating in the poll or will your religious duties forbid you to dignify the evils of the SEC?  Let me know as I will have a post up today releasing our rankings!

On Septmber 6, 2012, the following note was sent to ND Tex by Father Edward F. Sorin, C.S.C.:

Mr. Tex:

Sorry I didn’t participate in your poll, but I am incapable of ranking my Irish as anything less than Number One.  And let’s be honest, I just don’t give a damn about any of the rest of the bums.

And thus, on the night of November 17, 2012, the words of Fr. Sorin came to pass.  So it was written, so has it been done.

About Father Sorin

University Founder
Son, in 199 years of religious study, I have only come up with two hard, incontrovertible facts: There is a God, and I'm pretty tight with Him.

Now I’m going to tell you a whole lot of things I’ve kept to myself for years. None of you ever knew me. I was along before your time, but you all know what a tradition I am at Notre Dame. And one of the most important things I ever said was, “Friends, sometime when my University is up against it and the breaks are beating the students, tell them to go out there with all they’ve got and win at everything for Padre. I don’t know exactly where I’ll be then, friends,” I said, “but I’ll be looking right over your shoulder.”
