The ND Compliance office saw our post about the epidemic of weirdos friending recruits on Facebook and following them on Twitter. They sent this link along to us, and I think it's a great little primer on how you should really behave as a fan and booster of Notre Dame Athletics. So do me a favor and give it a read over lunch. Thanks!

Apparently, I’m going to have to stop sending all potential recruits a copy of a mural-sized poster of Lou Holtz stepping on a pleading Jimmy Johnson’s throat.

I also retract my statements in that post, as I no longer find stalking jokes funny knowing that “they” are watching.

Too late. They are tracing your IP address right now. Your best defense now is to say you don’t live anywhere near Savon Huggins.

Interesting but not surprising article on SI.com about the high ratio of top defensive lineman coming from the deep South. He quotes Chip Kelly as saying you can pick off skill players from other parts of the country but not D-lineman: “Most of the recruiting we do is geographic — on the West Coast,” Kelly said in a July interview. “We’ve expanded, but I think you can expand to get a skill kid. I’m not sure you can expand to get that type of d-line prospect. That’s always the toughest one.”
I might have agreed with him last year. But since Brian Kelly is pulling in a top d-line recruiting class from across the country this year, I would say he has figured out how to recruit the big defensive players.

Lynch and Tuitt are from the South, though, and they’re our two biggest names. I don’t know that much about the other guys. I. Williams is from the east coast, but he’s an OLB anyway. Either way, gotta love the work this staff is doing from coast to coast and Canada to Mexico!

Johnny Canuck has been one of Canada’s top waterboys, should be a great pickup for the Irish.

Haha, I meant the “borders” of canada and mexico. There’s no good word that denotes that the way “coast” denotes the east and west boundaries. I suppose I could have said “with national recruiting.”

The article also said that getting good DE’s is the best way to build a team as far as positions.
