Thanks for letting me know. Got the DVR set. I like that the soccer game is followed on ESPN2 by the Women’s bball team taking on Purdue in the 10-year anniversary of when we beat them for the NC back in 2001.

I will cheer for the girls in spirit, though it being soccer (lawn-diving) I cannot bring myself to watch it.
Also, all soccer is women’s soccer. Its a girl’s sport.
(End of message)

daybreak, when the poofsters are not taking dives, soccer is a great sport. It can get rough as hell. I can only hope that BK gets a record near as good as Coach Randy Waldrum (86% winning percentage)

While i respect your opinion and enthusiasm I must mightily agree. It is a feminine sport, for feminine players.
And we both know that soccer has never EVER approached the status of “rough as hell.” Unless you are referring to long distance endurance running. I’ll give you that.

National Champions, Irish! Way to go, girls!
So, do they still put the “#1″ up on top of Grace Hall?

Stanford might have had the more talented team (but only by a slight margin), but Notre Dame was extremely well-prepared for the match. They resolved to allow Stanford possession only in their half of the field, and played excellent team defense all over the field. Better still, they didn’t sit back in a defensive shell; they attacked whenever they could, made the field wide by passing the ball to the outside, and stretched Stanford’s defense horizontally and vertically. The goal was the result of too many defenders following Melissa Henderson to the end line, such that her through pass was to a wide open Adriana Leon, who let it rip.

Not that I know much about women’s soccer but I agree with the comments of ND’s coach. This shouldn’t be considered an upset. ND didn’t stay back in a defensive mode, even after they took the lead. They got off at least three shots in the last 20 minutes that Stanford’s goalie had to make great saves on, or it would have been 2-0.
Nice revenge for the football game. Thanks, ND ladies!

The Ohio State goalie in the semifinal was also excellent. That’s what makes their run so impressive:
Crushed UNC on their home field in the Round of 16
Went to Stillwater over Thanksgiving, and beat Oklahoma State 2-0
Beat Ohio State 1-0 in the semis (without their goalie’s stellar performance, it would’ve been 4-0)
Beat the team the experts said would won it all, and did so in rather dominating fashion.

I think I heard a commentator say that this was the toughest road to the NC of any team in the tournament’s history, as far as “upsets” in almost every round. Great job by the Irish!
