From the ND Newswire.
A 21-year old University of Notre Dame student died Wednesday (Oct. 27) in an accident that occurred on a practice football field when a film tower fell over.
The accident happened at approximately 4:50 p.m. at the LaBar Practice Complex, located on the southeast side of campus. The student was filming Notre Dame football practice for the Department of Athletics from a hydraulic scissor lift when the incident occurred. The student was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend, where he later died.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic loss,” said Rev. John I. Jenkins, C.S.C., Notre Dame’s president. “Our hearts go out to the student’s family and friends and our prayers and profound sympathies are with them during this incredibly difficult time. The loss of someone so young is a terrible shock and a great sadness. Our entire community shares in the family’s grief.”
The cause of the accident is under investigation. The University is making pastoral care and grief counseling available to students.
The identity of the student is not being released pending notification of family members.
Terrible. Our thoughts and prayers are with the student's family and friends.

Awful and completely preventable. Why the FUCK are you sending people into movable platforms in wind gusts of 60 mph?!
What’s even eerier, as some of my friends pointe out, is that he kept tweeting about how terrifying the gusts were.

I don’t think this is the time to point fingers. Let the family decide if, how, and when. What we can do is pray for Declan and his family, and friends. Let those injured get righteous and do what they want to do, if they want to do it, in the way they want to do it, and when. It’s not our place, and this isn’t the right time.
RIP Declan.

tkirish93, I cannot believe that you would make such a thoughtless and insensitive comment at a time like this. My prayers to the family and to the University of Notre family that must be reeling from this terrible tragedy.
