Since DMQ started his own series below, I figured I need to keep mine going. Up next after Purdue this season is the Skunkbears of Michigan (all of whom suck).
Let's recap the ND stats quickly...
Overall Record: 831-285-41
Overall Winning Percentage: .736
National Championships: 13 (varies from 9 to 13 pending the source, but we go high-end here for obvious reasons, right?)
Bowl Game Appearances: 29
Bowl Game Record: 14-15
Michigan's Sucky Football History Summary:

Outside of USC, no other team on the schedule comes close to ND, except the 'bears. UM has a rich football tradition (duh), and the historical stats show it.
Overall Record: 872-297-38. The skunkbears have more Ws than ND, but they are sucky Ws. Overall UM is #1 in total Ws, and ND is 3, with Texas coming in at #2.
Overall Winning Percentage: .738. The 'bears and the Irish are in a virtual statistical tie in winning percentage, with Michigan (sucks) edging the Irish by .002. After RR pulls out another horrible season this year, ND will pull even closer.
National Championships: 10. (of course this number varies as well, but I'm just going with nationalchamps.net here, which tends to give everyone credit for everything). ND wins the head to head here, by a whopping 30%.
Bowl Game Appearances: 39. Given their Rose Bowl tie-in and ND's penchant for just passing on Bowl Games over time, not a surprising edge.
Bowl Game Record: 19-20. Percentage-wise, just about a tie with the Irish.
And let's not forget the most important part of this history: Michigan was afraid to play the Irish for years, and then tried to get the program boycotted. Didn't work out that way, but they tried.
Hence, the suck.

I hope we crush them.

“I hope we crush them.”

Living in the South Bend/Michiana area most of my life, I simply cannot stand the Wolverines. Nothing in life is better than getting to rub it in their faces after an ND win. I hope Kelly runs it up on them and hangs half a hundred.

Wow. Our guy has a pair on him. When asked if ND will win a championship under him, he says, rather matter-of-factly, “Oh yeah, thats just a matter of time.”
With a lot of coaches, crap like that is just bravado, but the look on his face when he says it makes me sincerely doubt that. He seems supremely confident that he will win a championship.

Oh, and looks like we’re adding Texas too. Nice.

Okay, by my calculations we have to win 3 more games than Michigan (sucks) this year to reclaim the highest (win + tie/2) percentage, as you have it calculated above. Realistic? I hope so – I would guess that BK is 3 games better than DickRod.
However, if you look at actual win percentage (tie half of a win), we have to win 5-6 more games. Let’s root for Michigan (sucks) to keep DickRod around for at least another year so we can accomplish that.
Yes, I’m an engineer. And really, really want football season to hurry the hell up so we can talk about something better.

That should say “tie not equal to half of a win”.

thanks for working it out. i was guessing 5-7 but didnt take the time to run the numbers. i’m thinking we close the gap this year with our 8-9 win season (vs their 5-6) and then we take the lead next year when they’re starting over under a new coach…
