Sigh. The Friday Roundup. Long-time readers of HLS (and happy 5th start of the season to all 6 of you) know that the Roundup and I have had a tumultuous, on-again-off-again affair over the years. Back before the days of Twitter, and Bit.ly, and little side-bar widgets, and the economic implosion of 2007, you could depend on The Roundup and I showing up around here every Friday. But things... change. People change. Ways to curate College Football blogging and reporting curation changes. Oh sure, we'd appear for a few Fridays here and there. There was that embarrassing period over the course of the NCAA Basketball Tournament where we tried to roundup the best basketball writing? Remember that. No? Good. Best you forget the time we tried to make every link a haiku too.
But here we are again. With the Roundup. On a Friday. Because I can't quit you, Roundup. Not entirely.
The Roundup:
- Our friends over at Conquest Chronicles (and I do genuinely mean that, in the "we blog/they blog/compadres" sort of way), think that Lane Kiffin knows what he's doing and he's not, in the words of Orson of EDSBS, "falling d**k first in a pool of money and women." And we like to encourage our friends to believe whatever they want to believe, even if they're objectively wrong.
- Meanwhile, Kiffin can't imagine any reason that the Titans would sue him and SoCal but for spite/hatred.
- Subway Domer's blog network is holding a CFB roundtable. Start on Sub's page and then follow the links around the table.
- After all the reports this week, I was left with the impression that former Oregon QB/thief Jeremiah Masoli had already signed to finish out his NCAA career at Ole Miss, but apparently there are at least a few formalities left over.
- Sit down for this shocker: Orangeblood.com's and Chip Brown's "sources" during all that coverage of Texas/Pac-16/Big-12 coverage earlier this summer? Texas' Athletic Department, who processed and pureed the leaks for easy consumption by Chip in order to control the story.
- Irish Round Table says about all there needs to be said about the number 6.
- Still, that picture of Kiffin is just such an easy photoshopping target.
- One of the Big East's bigger problems exposed. With snark.
- When we started HLS, we'd hoped to sort of be "the Onion of ND football." We failed, but The Onion is really good at being "the Onion of College Football."
And, again, those 6 long-time readers will also remember that I had a habit of mentioning what beer I planned to enjoy over the weekend. Mostly I do it because I drink really good beer, I think everyone should drink really good beer, and that ticks off most of the fanbase of Michigan. It's sort of like how education ticks off fans of Florida State. So today, at about 6pm, I'll be cracking open a Southern Tier Heavy Weizen. Let us know what you'll be cracking open and if you've found any interesting links below in the comments.

I like the Sam’s Summer. They’ve changed the recipe this year, I think. More lemon zest or something, but I like it.

Stone Brewing Co.’s newly released 14th Anniversary Ale, which this year is an Emperial IPA, weighing in at 8.9% ABV and made with all British ingredients. A very authentic English IPA with the kick of the West Coast brewing style.

On vacation at the beach this week (hence the relative radio silence) and been enjoying heavy helpings of crappy light beer, along with Sams Summer and lots of ‘ritas.
Toasting friends to the recent Justice Hayes announcement, and betting on DE Lynch to give the Irish 2 Top 100 players on the same day. Glorious!!!!

Labatt’s is fine because you can just keep quoting Canadian comedic actors while you drink it.

Whisky. Irish Whisky. Bushmills preferably. Straight. And lots of it, starting at about 5:02 pm. It is my favorite summer drink. Fall too. Also winter.
But nothing but Cosmos in the Spring.
Define irony. As soon as the Heavy Weis left, you go with a Heavy Weizen. I was never one for the fat jokes, but that irony kills me.

** For the record, while I am new here, I DO realize the aim was for a beer. However, I choose to enthusiastically color outside the lines.

Brad,
I’m very disappointed in you. You know damn well the correct spelling is whiskEy when its Irish and American, and whisky when Scotch and Canadian. You’re better than that.

Anchor Steam Liberty Ale is my beer of choice this weekend. It’s from Anchor Steam in SF and was started back in 1975 to commemorate Paul Reveres Bicentennial ride.
Its pretty damn American if you ask me.

Anthony Rabasa is Irish. I knew nothing about him but appears to be a 3 *. However, he had offers from all 3 big Fla. schools so that should count for something. ESPN” has him ranked #98 of 150. Looks like good day with Justice. Hopefully they get to “Lynch” the other guys too.

I usually have to make a “Texas Tan” with it and mix the Shiner Blonde with it. Little too thick for my liking, but it hit the spot.

Make that FOUR pickups. The Brown announcement out of nowhere, and Aaron Lynch (stud!) Coming on board this AM. Huge recruiting weekend, all while BK is on vacation. Awesome. I’d do a post but I am computer-less. Oh, and Tony Alford deserves a raise!
