Ty Willingham has retired from coaching. Coaching football. No. Really.
What? Guys, stop. I'm serious. He's retired. Hardy har. Sooooo funny, Mr. "Didn't He Retire in 2002?"
No. Really. He retired via heavily covered press conference this morning Tom Dienhart's Twitter feed.

He was a coach too?

Is he still the highest paid person on the ND payroll? Or I guess maybe at best he’d have to take the #2 spot after Charlie Weis.
Good guy. Not a great football coach. Still got a bum deal only getting three years. But that’s water under the bridge.

Actually, I suspect that the last time Weis and Ty faced off, Ty was being paid more by ND than Weis was.

DMQ, that’s been confirmed. Up until last season, Ty made more than CW.
And I’m sure that CW is making more than Kelly. Go figure.

Has there been any word on how many years ND will have to pay on Charlie’s contract? He had another 6 years on his 10 year deal, I believe.

Ty Willingham is without doubt one of the greatest examples of someone becoming rich, famous, and successful (as defined by position at least) with little to now skill, accomplishments, talent, or real success in the history of the world.
He is definitely the tops. I would place him above Ron Zook, George W. Bush, and Obama. The guy has mad skills.

Err….well….mad skills in the art of rising through life without talent or success.
Though I suppose that IS a talent, now, isn’t it?

Brad–at the risk of violating DMQ’s no politics rule, I just wanted to point out that Obama graduated from Harvard Law School magna cum laude, was the editor of the law review, and is the first African American President of the United States. You might not agree with his politics, but claiming he is without talent or success is just downright nutty.

Just jokes. I figured it counted as no politics as it ripped on both.
But to counter…
Tyrone Willingham was a football at Michigan St., led Stanford to a Rose Bowl, and became the first African American Head Coach of the University of Notre Dame. And yet…
Eh?

True. But as we all know, hiring decisions are made for all sorts of reasons not related to mermerit. You don’t get straight A’s at Harvard Law School because someone likes your resume.

Not necessarily related to merit.

You should read some of Wayne Allyn Root’s assessment of those credentials. And it’s not just some right-wing hater making stuff up…Root was a classmate of Obama’s at Columbia.

Yes, Wayne Allen Root, the Las Vegas Sports handicapper who by his own admission has failed in 13 different careers, yet felt qualified to be the President of the United States. An excellent source for criticism of Obama. Root, Beck, Orly Taitz, Sarah Palin–the Republican Party is in good hands.

Obama is of mixed race for one, two he is not the first Black President, that falls to John Hanson. John Hanson was not only one of our country’s founders but also the very first President of the United States 1781-1782.

On a different topic, I just saw that Mike Garrett is out at USC as its AD, and they hired….
Pat Haden. Thats right, ND announcer Pat Haden.
This is hitting three birds with one stone. It means…
A) All the conspiracy theorists who believe Pat Haden does nothing but intentionally and politely rip on ND during games now have reason to believe they were correct.
B) Mike Garrett is gone, and we no longer need tolerate his vile prescence.
C) WE DON’T HAVE TO LISTEN TO PAT HADEN ANYMORE!

Pat Haden once called Reggie Bush “the First Amendment of hips.” That was in 2005. I still don’t get it.
