The 2004 USC National Championship will stand.
Why?
"The poll is intended to measure on-field performance. If teams are allowed to play, they're allowed to be ranked and USC certainly played in 2004."
So, ummmm, yeah, doesn't matter if all of your players are ineligible, or if you hire NFL players to come back to college. If they play, it counts, that's all. All good!
Plus, there's the issue of the IMPOSSIBILITY of figuring out who they'd crown champion is USC was removed.
AP voted USC No. 1 after the 2003 and 2004 seasons. Taylor said naming a different champ would be too difficult.
"It would be impractical to," she said, according to the Times. "It's been six years. Memories have faded and the poll board from that year is no longer intact."
Riiiiiiight, right right. That makes total sense. Because, you know, it's REALLY REALLY tough to go back and look at #2, move them up one spot, and crown that team champion. That'd be TOUGH. How could one ever figure out who should take that #1 spot should it be vacated????? Impractical! Man, it'd be great if there were a place where we could go back and look at those records to see who that #2 was....damn.
Weak.

If memory serves, it was the AP that named Alabama the National Champion after the 1973 season. You know, when ND BEAT Alabama in the Sugar Bowl.

The biggest problem in the BcS is not the format, the selection criteria, etc. It’s the reliance on subjectuve agenda-driven buffoons that causes the majority of the headaches. And I kno, the AP no longer is an ‘official’ poll , but the most definitely influence the coaches in their votes.

Here’s the question for AP. Should they let stand a result where the winner cheated or, pick who they think might be the second best team? There is a third answer of course, pick no one, and when anyone asks why respond “because USC cheated”. Even second graders in the playground would know that the initial result cannot stand.

Now we have to teach children the exception to the rule. Cheaters never win, except when the AP chooses the victor.
