An Open Letter to the Team

The Biscuit

Fellas,

I know you’re caught up in a lot right now. Potential coaching changes. The media and “fans” all up in your mix. A season that looked promising not going the way you’d hoped.

Just wanted to let you know: there are thousands, hundreds of thousands, MILLIONS of TRUE Notre Dame fans out there supporting you. Cheering you on. Pulling for you.

The guy that attacked Jimmy? The psychos that talk trash on you on internet forums? The dude that puts up a childish billboard? The people that boo you and your coach? That’s a a small though vocal minority. They make a lot of noise, but those people do not in any way represent what the true Notre Dame fan thinks, feels, or does.

We support you guys. We recognize how much heart you have, how much hard work you put in. We recognize that you’re fighting til the end in each game. And we know you’ve chosen a road more difficult than some others – that you’re balancing a class schedule and difficult academics with a grueling practice, game and ‘life’ schedule. We know that you’re busting your butts to represent Notre Dame well on and off the field. And we know you’re the ones that are most dissatisfied with the results. We know that it’s killing you that the results haven’t been what you, and the fans, wanted. And we know you’ll keep working hard to make it right.

So please, don’t forget the vast majority of us out here that have your backs. If you can, try to ignore the losers that only attack and have negative things to say. And focus your energy on beating Stanford and getting better every day.

Because one day we’ll all stand together with Notre Dame football back atop the College Football Hierarchy, and while those disingenuine ‘fans’ will celebrate and pretend like they’ve supported you all along, we’ll all know who the true warriors are, and we’ll know which fans had your back through the good times AND the bad.

Go Irish. Beat the living crap out of Stanford.

Add one more more level of difficulty for ND football players. It has to be challenging to go out to dinner with family members and friends and have some stupid see a well known person and cause trouble.
If the roles were reversed, guaranteed this trouble maker would already have an attorney and be suing. Too bad the SB Tribune didn’t have the courage to publish the sucker puncher’s name.
I have a very close relative that non-violently in a good Samaritan way tried to break up a fight. He was punched in the eye by one of the fighters. A week or two later he discovered that he had a torn retina. Major eye surgery was required to repair the damage. Had the eye problem not been found when it was, he would have lost the sight in one of his eyes.
Sucker punchers are scum.

Oh, come on. The “true fans” argument? You’re better than that, Biscuit. Any “untrue fan” could just as easily make the argument that YOU’RE not a “true fan” because you DON’T express your discontent at the performance of the team. I say both of you are wrong. Fans are fans. Some of them freak out and throw shit at their TV when the team sucks. Some of them just sit there quietly and stew in their seething anger. Some cheer even when the team sucks. Some boo even when the team is decent. Some realize it’s just a game and don’t get too worked up over it. They’re all fans, and it’s silly to pretend one is OMG SO MUCH MORE FANLISTIC than the other.

fine, edit it to say ‘true supporters’. my point is that not everyone out there is against them, not everyone is booing them, and not everyone wants to punch jimmy in the face. better? and do you seriously think calling a guy that punches jimmy in the face a ‘fan’ is legit? i don’t.
