We know. We know that getting riled up about this after losing to Navy is just sour grapes. Screw it. Had ND laid a hit on a guy like the one in this video, it would have been national news. Global. Putin would have been calling for Weis’ dismissal.
Whoever the coach for ND is next year, I hope they remind the players of plays by Navy like this one. And I hope the Irish respect Navy enough to give them an actual effort next year and kick their asses up and down the field.

Brown’s right, that’s a garbage play. I’m fine with him calling Navy’s coaches about it, but he should have left it at that. Only thing good that could come of it is if our players get fired up about it – but he could’ve done that in the locker room. Just looks lame after a loss.
Why are we still talking about this? WHY ARE WE STILL TALKING ABOUT M F’ING NAVY?
This is it. This is rock-bottom. One cheap shot should be a side note to a 21 point beat down. Hey Corwin, you know what I would be upset about? Your group of future NFL stars got beat up and down the field by a group of kids who signed up to be shot at by islamic extremists. How is the loss not solely on your shoulders as a coach?
Mark, it was hardly “one cheap shot.” That was just the most easily retrieved footage of an example. It happened repeatedly.
And I think Corwin brought it up to the media because he brought it up with Navy first, and they didn’t respond to his liking.
I’m sure there’s a joke about cornflakes and pee in here somewhere. domer, can you help me out here?
This was one of several cheap shots from Navy. No one wants to call them out considering the duty they do for our country. Navy’s play was not all that clean. Both ND fumbles involved some sort of helmet shot on an ND player. Clausen went down at the goal line due to a Navy player doing a helmet head butt/spear. Parris had his helmet ripped off by the face mask by a Navy player. Not to mention the cut blocks, some of which should be illegal if they aren’t already. A review of the game would reveal more.
Robby Parris’ inability to find a proper fitting helmet is not Navy’s fault.
Also, they are outweighed by 100 pounds across the board, they have to cut block. They have hit below the knees for the last 30 years. If you think it’s dirty you should probably avoid scheduling them.
I just can’t believe it’s moved beyond ND fans bitching and moaning about how the other team was dirty. Now the Irish coaches are sore losers as well. Navy is one of the least penalized teams in the nation. I’m not saying they’re infalable. I’m also not trying to use their service as an excuse as to why they shouldn’t be questioned. But let’s not get it twisted. These guys didn’t go Last Boy Scout on us. They played us straight up and beat us.
I can watch that game 100 times and I don’t think they’re “dirty.” I think they “won.”
Also, Navy doesn’t have to say shit to Corwin Brown. It’s Thursday and we’re talking about a third tier team that beat us last week. I’m sure they’re all focused on Pittsburgh.
We have lots of absurd comments by people who need reading comprehension help, but rare is the bird who needs help with viewing comprehension. Mark, how does the hit on Blanton in that video, or the similar one that happened in the game to McCarthy, or the ones last year have anything to do with “cut blocking?” Cut blocking after the whistle is now okay because they’re small, Mark? Really?
I agree that the discussion looks like sour grapes, but in this ridiculous case it’s warranted. Corwin, or anyone, talking about it doesn’t help anything, but it’s good internet fodder.
In addition to the spear on Jimmy on the fumble, his face-mask was pulled as he went down. You see it clear as day on the replay. That’s not why he fumbled, and I didn’t expect a call, but it happened. I don’t think it was dirty like this play though. I think it was accidental.
Okay you’re right. I’m completely absurd. It was a dirty hit by a son of a bitch who plays for one of the most rotten teams in the history of college football.
Speaking of absurd, WE LOST TO NAVY.
Here’s a scouting report on Navy: They’re small. They hit below the knees. Those hits may come after the whistle.
ND is bigger, faster and stronger. We could comb through the video and find all of ND’s dirty plays (Washington State had a few gems) and show them here as well.
The bottom line is Corwin Brown is talking about Navy 4 days after they made him look like Charlie Brown. “She pulled the football right out from under me!” “Well Charlie she’s always done that.” “Yes, but this time we lost!”
I didn’t say you were absurd. I also didn’t say that navy is a rotten team. Or that that kid is a dirty SOB. I said that that play was dirty. Geez, I know our program is struggling, but everyone is super-over-reacting lately. Chill Mark, we’re on the same side here. Nobody here is defending the loss. Nobody is defending Brown talking about it. But a fact is a fact and that play was dirty. That’s all.
Geebus, Mark, you may need to up the meds, dude. Here’s a hint: Your outrage over what we or Corwin Brown may be discussing has no effect on anything other than your own blood pressure.
Mark, you could watch that game 100 times? That’s impressive. I could barely watch it once.
Biscuit:
“Spear on Jimmy?” GMAFB! He should know when it’s time to slide, and after making a decent decision to scramble, he made the bad decision to try to take the ball in with two d-backs converging at high speed. Did he expect them to let him into the end zone because he’s Jimmy? Or did he expect them to apply every bit of force to keep him out?
Henderson’s hit on Blanton was a bad one. As a Navy fan, I can’t say anything other than it should not have happened, our guy got flagged, and we lost some precious yards. But instead of putting the hit into its proper context of a late hit on Dobbs by a frustrated defense and Jimmy’s antics after the pic, you try to invent a “spear” on Claussen.
You have a good blog, but when you do this you throw your credibility away just like Corwin Brown did to his.
Beat Pitt.
85-er. That was a stupid play by Jimmy in that game. I said the same. But he did get his facemask pulled around. I didn’t mention the spear, someone else did, and I was just saying ‘also, I saw…’. I didn’t remembe the supposed spear, but I clearly saw the facemask come around. Again, it wasn’t even why Jimmy fumbled, and I wasn’t saying it should’ve even been called (the fumble would’ve stood even if it had been called because it was after the fumble took place). I was just making an observation.
