There's not going to be much to this post. A little commentary, and a quote from Rocket. All I'm going to say here is: he's right.
Now, you hear a lot of things people say about [Weis] that aren't always so good. And what I have to say about that is this: If you met the guy and interacted with him and come away with that impression, then that's that.
But if you are 7,000 miles away and you spout all this stuff and feed the brush fire of murmuring and complaining and you haven't even picked up the phone and you haven't asked what you can do to help the man, that just adds to that system of unbelief.
If you say you love the university, don't be the complainer. Come in and say, “What do you need? What can I do for you?”
People forget about the spirit of Notre Dame. We're supposed to handle these issues differently. Pray for that man. Light a candle at the Grotto. That what makes us special. Then let God do the work. How about that?
Doesn't mean you have to love everything Weis does. Doesn't mean you have to think he's God's gift to coaching, or that you even have to like him. But if you call yourself a Notre Dame fan, well then you Best Damn Well be Supporting him and his Team.. Either for the next 10 years, or until it's another guy in the job that you need to support.
Just listen to the Rocket. Too many of us have forgotten that Notre Dame spirit he refers to, and that's a shame.

The Rocket has become my favorite former ND player.

Sorry, but that quote is dumb. I’m not allowed to complain about a movie until I’ve met the director? I’m not allowed to criticize a painting until I’ve met the artist?
But, seriously, Rocket. Just let me know who I’m supposed to call to “help” Weis. Jenny Craig? Seattle Sutton?

BK, Rocket doesn’t want you calling anyone. He’s talking about ex players putting up effing billboards. The spirit of what he’s saying applies to the rest of us though, I’d say.

Rocket’s message is still legit. You should support our team and therefore its coach. Up until it’s a new guy.

Why? Why should the fanbase support a bad coach? Because ND is “different”? Nonsense. Did you support Willingham the whole time he was at ND? Because if you did, you’re kind of a dope.

Because what are you doing then, Kermit? Hoping we lose? I hated Ty, but I still wanted to win. If you didn’t, weird. I don’t hate Charlie like I did Ty, because at least I know Charlie puts in the effort. I also know that Charlie isn’t a great coach. But I’m still pulling for him and his team to win.

Rooting against the team is WAY different than not being all “rah-rah” about the coach. I hated the shit out of Dusty Baker, but I wanted the Cubs to win despite him.

I guess we’re parsing words then, and maybe I wasn’t clear on what I was trying to say, for which I’ll take responsibility. I guess here’s a clearer way of trying to say it: 1) Bitching and moaning about a coach, whether on a message board or on a billboard, helps none. It just makes people feel better, because tearing people down is fun right, but could potentially hurt the team. Unlikely to hurt the team, but could, so there is some tiny risk there that you’re actually hurting the team you’re supporting 2) If you’re in a position to actually help (e.g. ex-players, etc), you should try that before you bitch and moan 3) So if you don’t like the coach, clam up about it and just cheer for the team. If he’s really not that good, he’ll be gone and you’ll be happy at some point anyway.

You’re a blogger, and you’re telling people not to bitch about something? Welcome to the internet, Biscuit. It’s a big place comprised of 98% tits, 1% people bitching about sports, and 1% relevant information and news.
