Friday Roundup: The “It’s Time To Stop Tilting” Edition

domer.mq

While the entire college football world, or the ND fanbase (the Google to CFB’s internet), seem focused on how this game matches up on paper, we’ve finally come to the point in the Weis era where it’s time to stop looking at what’s on paper. It doesn’t matter if the paper says that the Irish are finally within arm’s reach of the talent pool at Southern Cal, and it wouldn’t matter if the paper said that the Irish were going to have to play the game with lead weights tied to their ears. It’s been 5 years since Charlie Weis took the head coaching job at Notre Dame. This will be his 5th attempt at beating the Trojans. All the analysis in the world wont change the fact that if anyone tries to do anything five times, they should at least manage to do it once or get out of the way and let another one of the kids in line have a go.

Anymore handshakes between Weis and Carroll had better feature a big grin on Weis’ face.

Here’s a link to that same Dawg Sports blog with commentary about that Georgia story.

To summarize the discussion, though… Mark Richt is not on the hot seat. The seat isn’t even warm. The same can not be said, however, for his defensive coordinator, who already seems to be out the door.

Hmm, my inner conspiracy theorist says that there is something to domer calling out Weis then including Brian Kelly in this weeks links. You could do far worse than Kelly.

RichRod is THE WORST EVER. How does he get away with blatantly making things up? I don’t get it. Tool. There, now I feel better. Back to U$C.

Please stop with the Brian Kelly hype. USF was horrible in that game and Cinci was lucky to win. Dropped interceptions (multiple) stupid penalties, and USF’s qb running around like a chicken with his head cut off and the game was still close. If Weis is as bad as you guys think he is there will be plenty of time in November to discuss available coaches. This is a big game, try to support your team instead of doing your best to undermine Weis.

I didn’t hype anything, SDI. I mentioned facts and facts only. Don’t read anything into it. If I wanted people to read into things, I’d have made parallels between what Kelly did last night and the way ND barely beat Purdue in a somewhat similar situation except that USF was ranked and Cincy won comfortably whereas Purdue is wretched and ND didn’t win until the final minutes.

Right. Then why not just say “Cinci beats USF”? Or “Cinci beats USF despite injury to Tony Pike”? And taken in combination with your comments about it being time for Weis to step aside if he doesn’t beat USC, it’s pretty clear where you’re coming from. Everyone that reads this site knows you’re down on Weis and I understand why. In fact, after the Syracuse game last year I was on the bandwagon with you there for a few days. But it gets old. He’s the coach, he will be until at least the rest of this season and given the magnitude of this game and the potential for a huge win for the team and the ND community, it just seems a little inconsistent with the ND spirit to be so negative at this point in time.

SDI,

I by no means want Weis to be fired right now. I want things to play out. I do feel it’s about time for Weis to win a game against SC.

As for any innuendo regarding Kelly, think of it more as, “Here’s a guy who, IF there is a list, he probably ought to be on that list.” Think of it more as me trying to educate our readership about who’s out there as far as coaching prospect, even if we end up not needing a new one for 5 years.

Really, I don’t want to replace Weis. I want my fellow alum to succeed. I want Weis to have a big stinkin’ grin on his face tomorrow night.

SDI, I think the major difference between Kelly at Cincy and Weis at ND is that Kelly is doing this all with his own skills and mediocre talent. Charlie has all the talent in the world at his disposal and is getting near nothing out of it.

I’m with domer here. I dont want Chaz to be fired either, and if he wins this weekend, there’s no CHANCE of it. But to try to parallel ND and Cincy in that regard is foolish, imo.
