fair point. “redshirt” is totally misleading. all it means is the kid sat on the bench for a year. so did i on the high school team, and i didn’t get to hang around for an extra year skipping study hall. call ‘em what they are, and when they are there for a 5th year, they can be “5th year players,” or “graduate players,” or “dummies who got held back,” or whatever.

A pet peeve of *mine* is the use of “freshmen” for the singular, or, for that matter, “freshman” for the plural (as the Seattle blog did)!

Right on Biscuit–this annoys the shite out of me.
I don’t care about the whole competitive advantage angle, it’s just stupid. If the guy is in his second year he’s a sophomore, just call him that.
