Phil Steele is practically out, what with early releases at various bookstores and "leaks" from those who get advanced copies from the man himself. Also, on Monday, our buddy Adam will have a podcast available on his site, InTheBleachers.net, and he promised to hit up Phil for his thoughts on ND, so make sure you check it out. We'll post a link to the 'cast once it's up as well.
Anyway, given the way "news" is suddenly developing about college football, and top 25 pre-season polls are popping up everywhere, I declare this day the start of College Football Pre-Season. So long, College Football Off-Season, and thanks for all the fish.
Also, Burn Notice is back on TV. Some of you live amazing, jet-setting lives and aren't excited about this. I'm not one of you.

USA! USA! USA!
- Layla Kiffin is hot, popular.
- By the way, Adam's doing a countdown of the Top 50 non-BCS players in CFB. Really interesting stuff.
- Syracuse is celebrating this almost as much as they celebrated beating ND last year.
- Funny. Might Urban Meyer have ruined his chance at his dream job, what with an entire recruiting class having gone to jail during his tenure at his current career stepping stone?
- Like I've mentioned before, BC is a mess, and if ND doesn't pound them this year, the coaches should all resign.
- A SoCal blogger gets critical of Phil Steele.
- Tennessee reveals their version of "The Shirt" for 2009, and in a real head-scratching move, it's Orange rather than mauve, violet, or puce. And, strangely, it doesn't do a lot to glorify the "good old days" nor does it feature any poetry. Heathens.
- Perhaps I'm a bit tardy with my announcement that Pre-Season is here, as The Quad already started their pre-season Top 120. That's right, they rank all 120 programs. And they started a month ago. They're at #89 already. Catch up.
- Washington is well on their way to blaming all ills on Willingham. This is just the first step. They just don't know it yet.
- A look at the rankings of teams that actually bother to play it out on the field.
- Urban Meyer's previous team also seems to have a problem with violent crimes.

Boy, that Washington story about Ty recruiting Heaps sounds eerily familiar. Too bad for Washington that they didn’t have their own version of Chinedum Ndukwe to recruit Heaps for the Huskies.

More on Urban Meyer from this article about Jesse Scroggins III, one of the top QB prospects in the class of 2010.
http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=4227919&name=feldman_bruce&action=upsell&appRedirect=http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index%3fentryID%3d4227919%26name%3dfeldman_bruce
“Jesse III said his first offer came from Washington in February. That was followed by Washington State, and then a bunch more. Just the other day Florida offered. The Gators coaches told him they’re going to more of a pro-style offense, because NFL teams don’t run the spread, which he says was good to hear since he’s more of a pro-style guy himself.”
So, Florida’s going to move away from the spread? Urban Meyer has used the spread since he’s been a head coach. This kid will regret it if he goes to Florida, where he will ride the pine, waiting patiently for Urbs to come through on yet another false promise.

Texas State has been dismal for a few years, it’s really been sad to see them fall apart like they did. With UTSA getting a D-1 program and Larry Coker likely to poach likely TxSt talent, things don’t look good for their future.
