Golden and Young Named Pre-season All-Americans by Steele
The Biscuit
One seems well-deserved and the other an opportunity to finally realize potential.
Golden Tate was named 1st Team AA by Steele, and Young 2nd team, in Mr. Steele’s latest installment of his almost-insane brain (insane in the brain, wuh-weee!).
Golden is highly deserving of this. This kid is just an explosive athlete – his progress from really fast go-route-runner to quality WR from Year 1 to Year 2 was remarkable. And with Floyd on the other side and Jimmy behind center, he’s going to make some ridiculous plays this year and put up some awesome numbers.
Sam, on the other hand, is all potential (to me). He’s been serviceable. He’s been ‘good’. He’s done an okay job. But for a guy with his accolades coming in, that’s not good enough. Sam Young should be a dominant freaking lineman, and I’m just hoping that it’s been the coaching holding him back, and not Young himself.
If anyone can get the most out of Sam, I believe that The Duche can do so. Steele sees the potential in Young, as we all have, and he’s betting it finally comes through. For Sam’s future, and for the success of our running game, I certainly hope he’s right. Go get ‘em Sam.

Good for Golden. Glad to see him getting the recognition he deserves. As for Young, good for him too, but I have trouble believing he’s the 2nd best right tackle in the country. If I was a returning right tackle at USC, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, or any other top 20 school I might be beating the ND is a media darling drum, because as you correctly point out, Young has yet to show that he is a dominant right tackle, much less the 2nd best in the nation. I hope Steele knows something I don’t (which generally speaking is probably a safe bet).
I’m very optimistic about the Duche. That must be part of Steele’s thinking on this one.
Here is his All-IND team:
