The Spring roster is out.
Interesting thing to note is that we have only 5 Seniors on the spring squad. 5th-year announcements will be made in the coming weeks and you can expect most of these guys to return, but from a current Senior Class perspective, this is a TINY TINY group. Consider also who those 5 are:
Anello - Rudy incarnate, but only going to play ST (and returning from a broken leg)
Duncan - Major Contributor
Herring - Minor Contributor, largely for depth and ST though could fight for vacant S spot this year
McCarthy - Minor Contributor, largely for depth and ST [NOTE: sloppy cut and paste here and i got called out for it and rightfully so. Leaving it in for further public lynching. Fire away].
Smith - Minor Contributor, largely for depth and ST
Needless to say, it's going to fall largely on the Seniors and Juniors to lead this squad. Step up boys. Step up.
[NOTE: Called out for mis-labeling seniors as 5th and 5th as seniors. After a few happy hour beers I didn't keep these two labels clean (since the current seniors will be 5th years), and so I updated it as it should've been. My bad!]

It looks like the class year on the roster is not updated to reflect what class each player will be in during the next season. They list Clausen and Allen as sophomores and Floyd and Crist as freshmen.

Those five seniors you listed will be possible 5th year seniors this year – 2009. The 2009 seniors, Sam Young’s class, will be a large class.

Off topic, but are you guys going to cover ND hockey at all this year? I’ve been lucky enough to see a few games this year on CBS CSTV, and this year’s squad is REALLY badass. That game against O$U last week was the most amazing ending to a hockey game I’ve ever seen in my life. I’ve rewatched that thing like 5 times already and STILL cant believe it. Tonight, they absolutely DESTROYED Northern Mich(sucks?) at the jac 9-5. Three guys with 2-goals each if memory serves.

Not anything already said in the prior comments but I think it bears asking again: do you really follow ND football? To not realize the five listed above are potential 5th year candidates, to not realize Kyle McCarthy was a leading tacker last year (a minor contributor?), to think you all of a sudden discovered there will only be 5 seniors next year? Don’t you think the pending 5 man senior class would not have already been a huge topic of discussion? Please tell us your post was a actually a joke.

Sorry to disagree with you mq. McCarthy was a leading tackler, but he could not cover his own shadow against receivers and backs. Way too many alcolades were given to him for the tackling part and not enough attention was paid to his coverage deficiencies. Always 1-2 steps too slow. We need someone who can tackle AND cover against the pass. If he starts next year I will be very disapointed that someone has not stepped up to surpass him on the depth chart.

John and Dave, I am okay with people calling out the error. I deserve it since it was clearly sloppy writing (yep, i blame the booze yesterday). But it’s also just a copy-paste error and some mis-labeling. Please don’t come to my site and question my ‘fandom’. If you spent more than 30 seconds on the site, you’d know it was a typo thing and not ignorance.
And Dave, if we only posted about things that no one could ever find anywhere else, we’d never post a thing. It’s the internet dude.
