It's freaking cold and it's dark all the time. What to do until August? How about read 1000 novels? A few I'm picking up from today: Gaiman's "American Gods," Stephenson's "Snow Crash," and maybe Franzen's "The Corrections." Though I'm not sure about Franzen because reading about something far too familiar is sort of like getting home from working on one of the mega-corporate-campuses in the suburbs just in time to see a new episode of The Office. My God do I hate those corporate campuses.
The Roundup:
- This is very important. It's happening at 7pm ET on ESPN. See it.
- Yeah, don't ever let Brian Cook do your accounting for you, or you might end up with a case of Sarbanes Oxley.
- Well, glad time was spent on this on the hill.
- This one makes me think of the "physical" everyone on our HS team received before spending August practicing in 105 degree temps with 98% humidity.
- What do you do if you're an SEC program that just made a HC hire that made a lot of people go, "whaaaa...?" Fortify the HC with the League of Extraordinary Assistants. Well, unless you're Auburn, I guess.
- Apparently it makes sense that so many of Bush's e-mails were lost. The Obama White House can't find any e-mail either.
I'm re-thinking the "beer of the week" thing. Think: MQ's looking for ways to solicit free beer. So until we figure that out, that's gonna be on hiatus for a bit. Chance are we'll just bring it back without free beer samplers, but we're at least gonna try. Times are tough. I'm looking for handouts.
Feel free to suggest a beer in the comments.
Here's a neat picture:

If you like American Gods, I recommend going through the rest of Gaiman’s work. As much as I like AG, I like the rest of his novels that I’ve read (Neverwhere, Stardust, Anansi Boys) even better.
(Name changed to the handle I often use on message boards in honor of the posting about American Gods…)

Ok, another one of my damn comments got deleted. What the hell, guys?
Anyway, I posted that I had a suggestion for the BOTW. My favorite brewery, Shiner, has been unveiling a new beer every year to celebrate this year being their 100th anniversary. So I recommend Shiner 100, which is a special edition limited beer. I’ve seen Shiner all the way out in Atlanta, GA, so there’s some decent distribution if you can get ahold of it. It’s pretty decent, I bought a case tonight to try it. It tastes very similar to the Shiner Bock, which is a traditional bock beer, medium body with an robust, oaky taste and a caramelly finish. What makes this one special particularly is a little more hoppiness. It’s got a bit of a bitter bite, but is really smooth going down. Even more than the original Bock, actually. I think they did better with their Holiday Cheer, but Shiner 100 is definitely worth the 6.00.

The last one is the Shiner 100. Interesting fact about Shiner…it appeared on an episode of Iron Chef America during “Battle Beer.” The Shiner Blonde was one of the secret ingredients used.
And I checked the distribution, and you shouldnt have too much trouble getting one, Shiner is distributed in 41 states.

Trey,
It wasn’t deleted. It got put in the approval queue because it had a link embedded. We’ve had to do that so we don’t get spammed to hell. Unless you want to see lots of comments on the blog about financial opportunities in West Africa.
