Just some food for thought... Maybe we'll dig in deeper or someone else will do it for us, but...
The last couple of days, it seems like the only college football news showing up in my Google Reader is news about college players who are or are not going pro. And it's really struck me how not a single one of those news items is about a Notre Dame football player. Hell, even Boise State (!) has a guy leaving early for the draft and making waves in the news with the decision. It's no surprise, mind you, given the makeup of the more senior classes of the 2008 squad, and the fact that ND guys will tend to stick around to graduate anyway, but when's the last time ND fans checked message boards and scoured blogs looking for information about whether a ND player was going to go pro before his eligibility ran out? Brady Quinn? Justin Tuck?
It's been too long. Then again, we have a feeling next year we'll be wondering about quite a few ND players "leaving us" early to go pro.

I would have loved to see how the ’05 season turned out with Tuck back for his senior year. Not sure if we could say the same about any current juniors if they left. None that come to mind right away.

Biscuit, I guess what I’m saying, is that in 20 years (hopefully) if we look back on the ND draftees, this lull will really stick out. I’m thinking in historical terms. Remember the analysis I did that looked for correlation between wins in a season and eventual NFLers in the next year’s draft? That’s what I’m thinking about.

ah, i see, now that makes sense. in that context – against all the other years and all the other drafts, striking is a good word. i was thinking in terms of this year, and it just seems expected/obvious. now i’m with ya.
